Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 24

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on May 24, 85 combat clashes had occurred along the frontline. The heaviest fighting is currently taking place in the Pokrovsk direction. However, enemy activity has also been recorded in other areas, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs.
Enemy shelling
Since the beginning of the day, Russian shelling from across the border has targeted several settlements:
- Porozok, Kamianska Sloboda, and Lohy in the Chernihiv region
- Stepok, Dmytrivka, Mariine, Zarychne, Prohres, Turia, Tymofiivka, Bratenytsia, Shevchenkove, and Myropilske in the Sumy region.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces tried three times to break through Ukrainian defensive lines near Vovchansk and Vovchanski Khutory. All attempts were repelled.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched two assaults toward Petropavlivka and Nova Kruhliakivka. Ukrainian defenders stopped both.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched 12 attacks near Kopanki, Lypove, Ridkodub, Zelena Dolyna, Kolodiazi, Torske, and in the direction of Karpivka, Hrekivka, and Olhivka. Three battles are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy attacks in Bilohorivka and Pereizne.
In the Kramatorsk direction, two Russian assaults were pushed back to the west of Andriivka and toward Predtechyne. One more clash is ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian troops launched nine attacks today near Druzhba, Dyliivka, Krymske, Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, and Petrivka, and in the direction of Pleshchiivka. Three engagements are still underway.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces carried out 25 attempts since the start of the day to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions near the settlements of Zoria, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Muravka, Troitske, and Andriivka.
"The Defense Forces are holding back the enemy's onslaught and have repelled 19 attacks, and six clashes are ongoing. Enemy losses are being clarified. Zoria, Novotoretske, Sofiivka, and Koptieve came under airstrikes," the General Staff said.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian troops attacked 10 times today near the settlements of Kostiantynopil, Bahatyr, Vilne Pole, Rivnopil, and Novosilka. Two battles are still ongoing. Airstrikes were recorded in Novodarivka, Novopil, Perebudova, and Komar.
In the Huliaipole direction, the towns of Huliaipole and Malynivka were hit by unguided rockets. No active ground assaults were recorded.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces, supported by aircraft, launched an offensive toward Novoandriivka. Fighting also took place near Stepove and Mali Shcherbaky. A total of three clashes were recorded in this direction.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, no active ground operations by Russian forces were observed. However, an airstrike targeted the town of Kozatske.
In Russia's Kursk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 11 Russian attacks during the day. Five more clashes are still underway. The enemy launched eight airstrikes, dropped nine unguided bombs, and carried out 62 shelling attacks, including two with multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no significant changes in the situation in other frontline directions.
The enemy's losses
Over the past 24 hours, from May 23 to 24, Russian forces lost another 1,130 soldiers in combat with Ukrainian troops. Additionally, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 47 armored fighting vehicles, 36 artillery systems, 232 drones, and 232 units of enemy vehicles.
