Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 22

Since the beginning of the day, 101 combat engagements have taken place along the entire front line. Ukrainian soldiers are repelling enemy attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, the enemy launched two missile strikes and 51 airstrikes, used four missiles, and dropped 78 guided aerial bombs (KABs). In addition, they deployed 1,324 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,183 attacks on populated areas and positions of Ukrainian forces.
Situation on the front
Kharkiv direction: The enemy attempted six times to break through the defensive lines of Ukrainian forces near the settlement of Vovchansk and toward Dovhenke.
Kupiansk direction: Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks in the areas of Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, Kindrashivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and toward Pishchane. Two more engagements are still ongoing.
Lyman direction: Ukrainian troops stopped twelve enemy attacks in the areas of Hrekivka, Novyi Myr, Torske, Lypove, and Ridkodub.
Siversk direction: The enemy carried out two offensive actions near Hryhorivka and Bilohorivka.
Kramatorsk direction: Ukrainian defenders halted three enemy attempts to advance near Chasiv Yar and Bila Hora. One combat engagement is still underway.
Toretsk direction: The enemy launched six assaults on Ukrainian positions near Romanivka, Toretsk, and Dyliivka. Ukrainian defense forces have repelled four of them, with two battles still ongoing.
Pokrovsk direction: The enemy carried out 32 offensive actions. Russian forces were active near Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Malynivka, Zvirove, Kotliarivka, Dachenske, Udachne, Troitske, Andriivka, and toward Promin, Shevchenko Pershe, and Myroliubivka. Five combat clashes are still in progress.
Novopavlivka direction: Ukrainian units repelled 11 enemy attacks near Kostiantynopil and toward Shevchenko and Novopil. One engagement is still ongoing.
Huliaipole direction: Defense forces successfully repelled one enemy attempt to advance near the settlement of Vysoke.
Orikhiv direction: The enemy conducted two offensive actions today toward Novodanylivka.
Prydniprovskyi direction: No offensive actions were recorded from the enemy.
Kursk direction: There were 20 combat engagements today. The enemy launched 12 airstrikes, dropping 16 guided bombs on settlements and Defense Forces positions. In addition, 191 artillery attacks were recorded, including three from multiple rocket launcher systems.
Other directions: No significant changes were observed.
Russian losses in the war
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation has lost nearly 977,000 personnel.
Over the past day, the enemy suffered the following losses:
