Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 5

As of 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time on May 5, there were 146 combat engagements on the front line. The most intense fighting was recorded in four directions, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
Today, the enemy launched one missile strike and 65 airstrikes, using two missiles and 138 guided aerial bombs (FABs). They also deployed 1,176 kamikaze drones and carried out over 4,200 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.
Hottest fronts
Since the beginning of the day, the enemy has attempted 48 times to break through the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ lines in the Pokrovsk direction, near the settlements of Sukha Balka, Stara Mykolaivka, Vodiane Druhe, Novotoretske, Shevchenko, Udachne, Uspenivka, Troitske, Kotliarivka, Bohdanivka, and Andriivka. Currently, 11 combat engagements are ongoing.
"According to available information, enemy losses in this direction today amount to 279 killed and wounded. In addition, two tanks, six vehicles, one buggy, 12 motorcycles, two artillery pieces, 12 UAVs, a satellite communication terminal, a dugout, and seven UAV control points were destroyed. Furthermore, a tank, six artillery pieces, a vehicle, and a mortar were damaged," the report states.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian forces have already repelled 15 attacks by the occupying army today near the settlements of Novopil, Novosilka, Pryvilne, Komar, Rivnopil, Burlatske, Kostiantynopil, and toward Odradne and Bahatyr. Five more combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched 30 attacks today near the settlements of Nadiya, Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Nove, Kolodiazi, and Myrne, as well as toward Zelena Dolyna. Ukrainian forces repelled 26 enemy assaults; six battles are still in progress.
In the Kupyansk direction, three combat engagements are ongoing. In total, Russian forces made 18 attempts to advance today. The enemy carried out 19 airstrikes, dropped 27 guided aerial bombs (FABs), and conducted 293 artillery strikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, including seven using multiple rocket launch systems.
Situation on other fronts
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy launched four attacks near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attempted five assaults throughout the day near the settlements of Stepova Novoselivka, Zahryzove, and toward Novoosynove and Hlushkivka. Ukrainian units repelled four of these attacks; one battle is still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, our defenders repelled three enemy attacks near Kurdiumivka and toward Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out six offensive actions against Ukrainian positions in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, and Ozarianivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, near the settlement of Vysoke, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks; one combat engagement remains ongoing. The settlements of Malynivka, Temyrivka, Oleksandrohraf, and Zelene Pole were hit by airstrikes.
In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders repelled 14 enemy assaults near Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamianske, and in the direction of Novoandriivka and Novodanylivka.
What the Kursk operation gave Ukraine
Today, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that the Kursk operation, which has been ongoing for nine months, has achieved most of its objectives.
He emphasized that, thanks to this operation, it was possible to prevent a Russian offensive campaign in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
