Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 28

Since the start of April 28, there have been 92 combat clashes along the front line. The heaviest Russian assaults are taking place in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian forces continue to strike Ukraine’s border settlements. Artillery fire hit the villages of Stepok, Uhroidy, Khliborob, Porozok, Prokhody, Mezenivka, Porokhon, Bila Bereza, Studenok, Ulanove, Osoivka, Budivelne, Khrinivka, and Sosnivka in the Sumy region, as well as Lemishchyne and Tymofiivka in the Kharkiv region.
Russian airstrikes also targeted the areas near Myropilske and Petrushivka in the Sumy region.
Most active directions
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces launched 38 attacks today against Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Malynivka, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Nadiivka, Troitske, Kotliarivka, Sribne, Andriivka, and toward Stara Mykolaivka, Oleksandropol, Novopavlivka, and Bohdanivka. Six clashes are ongoing.
Russian airstrikes targeted the settlements of Popiv, Volodymyrivka, Poltavka, Nova Poltavka, Malynivka, Kozatske, Hrodivka, Novoekonomichne, Myrnohrad, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Pokrovsk, and Zvirove.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 enemy attacks near Kostiantynopil, Vilne Pole, and toward Odradne, Bahatyr, and Shevchenko. One battle is still ongoing. Russian airstrikes also hit areas near Zelene Pole, Novopil, and Piddubne.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched eight attacks near Katerynivka, Nove, Kolodiazi, and toward Novyi Mir. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions eight times around Toretsk and toward Diliivka and Dachne. Three clashes are still ongoing.
Situation in other directions
In the Kharkiv direction, there were seven combat clashes near Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, and Zapadne. One clash is still ongoing.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made five attempts to advance.
In the Kursk direction, there were five combat clashes today, with three still ongoing. Additionally, Russian forces launched ten airstrikes, dropped 14 guided bombs, and carried out 164 artillery attacks, including one using multiple rocket launchers.
In the Siversk direction, Russian forces conducted three offensive actions toward the settlements of Hryhorivka and Verkhniokamyanske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Defense Forces repelled three enemy assaults near Markove, Chasiv Yar, and Bila Hora, with four clashes still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled three enemy attacks near Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Lobkove. One engagement is still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces launched two assaults near Zahryzove and Nova Kruhliakivka. One battle is still underway.
In the Huliaipole direction, Russian airstrikes targeted Huliaipole.
Russian losses in the war
Russian forces lost 1,160 personnel over the past day. Ukrainian troops also destroyed four tanks, 13 armored fighting vehicles, 31 artillery systems, 72 operational-tactical UAVs, and 105 units of enemy automotive equipment.
