Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 23

As of 4:00 PM on March 23 (Kyiv time), 74 combat engagements have taken place on the frontline since the beginning of the day. Almost half of them took place exclusively in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
Today, border settlements continue to suffer from cynical shelling from Russia. These include Mykhailivske, Stepok, Vyshenky, Bila Bereza, Yastrubshchyna, Kucherivka, Luhivka, Oleksandrivka, and Porozok in the Sumy region. Airstrikes also targeted Petrushivka, Krasnopillia, Okip, Turia, Uhroidy, Novodmytrivka, and Prokhody.
Frontline situation
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attempted to advance near Zahryzove but was successfully stopped by Ukrainian forces.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched six attacks near Yampolivka and toward Novyi. Five clashes are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, there have been four assaults on Ukrainian positions near Bilohorivka, in the directions of Ivano-Dariivka and Verkhniokamianske, since the beginning of the day. Two clashes continue.
In the Kramatorsk direction, fighting continues near Orikhovo-Vasylivka.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked eight times near Diliivka and Toretsk today. Four battles are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the enemy has made 35 attempts to push Ukrainian forces from their positions in the areas of Panteleimonivka, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Andriivka, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, and Bohdanivka. Ukrainian forces are holding off the enemy’s pressure and have repelled 29 attacks, with six clashes still continuing. Enemy casualties are being confirmed.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russians attacked six times near the settlements of Kostiantynopil and Rozlyv. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy was repelled three times in attempts to advance near Novopil and Novosilka. Uncontrolled rockets were used to attack the areas of Huliaipole, Novodarivka, Novosilka, and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, the settlement of Mala Tokmachka was hit by an airstrike.
In the Kharkiv and Prydniprovskyi directions, the enemy has not conducted any active offensive actions.
In Russia's Kursk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled four Russian attacks throughout the day. Five battles are still ongoing. The enemy launched five airstrikes, dropped five guided bombs, and carried out more than 181 shellings, including five from multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no significant changes in other directions of the frontline.
As a reminder, over the last 24 hours, from March 22 to 23, Russian forces lost 1,470 soldiers at the frontline. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed 104 artillery systems, 157 operational-tactical level drones, and 185 units of motor vehicles.
