Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 16

Since the beginning of March 16, 64 combat engagements have occurred on the frontlines. Russian forces are exerting the most pressure on Ukrainian positions in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, today, communities in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, such as Bachivsk, Yastrubshchyna, Mykolayivka, Khodyne, and Bila Bereza, were targeted by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kharkiv direction, four attacks occurred near Vovchansk, Kamianka, and toward Kutkivka. Currently, one battle is ongoing. The enemy also carried out an airstrike on Udy.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces made eight attempts to breach Ukrainian defenses in Petropavlivka, Bohuslavka, Lozova, Zahryzove, and toward Kupiansk. One engagement is still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched six attacks on Ukrainian positions near Novoyehorivka, Zelena Dolyna, and Novomykhailivka. One battle continues to this day.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy assaults near Verkhniokamianske and Ivano-Dariivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces are repelling two enemy attacks in Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out seven assault actions in Toretsk and Druzhba. Six battles are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces made 11 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of the settlements of Sukha Balka, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Kotlyne, Novooleksandrivka, Uspenivka, Yasenove, and Andriivka. Ukrainian forces are holding their ground and have repelled 10 enemy attacks. One battle continues. Aerial bombs struck Pokrovsk.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses six times in the area of Kostiantynopil. The enemy dropped aerial bombs on Novopavlivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, Russian forces attacked Skudne, Pryvilne, Vilne Pole, and toward Novopil. With unguided aerial missiles, the enemy also targeted Novopil, Novodarivka, Huliaipole, and Shevchenko.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy carried out five attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Stepove and Zherebianky. All attacks have been repelled.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy did not carry out offensive actions but conducted airstrikes on Olhivka, Tokarivka, and Mykolaivka.
In Russia's Kursk direction, eight combat engagements occurred since the beginning of the day, two of which are still ongoing. The enemy carried out nine airstrikes, dropped 16 guided bombs, and launched 104 artillery strikes on Ukrainian military positions and settlements.
There have been no significant changes in other directions.
Frontline situation
According to the General Staff, 148 combat engagements were recorded the previous day. The enemy launched 98 airstrikes, dropping 161 guided bombs.
Additionally, Russian forces carried out nearly 6,000 shelling attacks, including 188 from multiple rocket launchers and 2,735 drone strikes.
On the previous day, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 17 enemy concentration areas, including personnel, equipment, and weaponry, as well as a command post, air defense system, and artillery unit.
