Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 8

Ukrainian defenders are resolutely repelling Russian attacks, causing significant losses to the enemy. Since the beginning of the day, 150 combat engagements have occurred in various frontline directions, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Ukrainian defenders continue to firmly repel the enemy's attempts to advance deeper into our territory, delivering effective fire strikes and exhausting them across the entire frontline," the General Staff stated.
According to military officials, there have been 150 combat clashes since the beginning of the day.
Russian forces launched three missile strikes and 64 air strikes, using three missiles and 71 guided air bombs. Additionally, Russia deployed 1,317 kamikaze drones and carried out nearly 5,000 artillery strikes on Ukrainian military positions and settlements.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled five enemy attacks in Vovchansk and Petro-Ivanivka. The enemy launched air strikes near the settlements of Dovzhyk and Kozacha Lopan.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 assaults in Kindrashivka, Lozova, Stepova Novoselivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions near Novomykhailivka, Novyi, Myrnyi, Kolodyazi, Yampolivka, and Zelena Dolyna 23 times over the day. Eight clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, two combat engagements have been recorded near Chasiv Yar and Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk direction, Russians attacked the defense positions 19 times. The main focus of the enemy's advance is near Druzhba and Toretsk. Four clashes are currently ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses 25 times near the settlements of Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Andriivka, Oleksandropil, Pokrovsk, Serhiiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Bohdanivka, Tarasivka, Lysivka, Zelenyi Kut, and Ulakly. Four clashes are still ongoing. The enemy also targeted the settlement of Leontovychi with air strikes.
The enemy is suffering significant losses. Today, Ukrainian forces neutralized 182 Russians, 106 of whom were killed. Additionally, the following were destroyed:
- An infantry fighting vehicle;
- Three motorcycles;
- Two reconnaissance UAVs (Zala);
- Twelve vehicles;
- Ten UAV control antennas;
- Five artillery systems and an enemy vehicle.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attacked six times near Kostiantynopil and Burlatske. Five attacks have already been repelled.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy launched three attacks toward Storozhove and Charivne. Furthermore, Russian forces carried out air strikes on Huliaipole, Voskresenka, Novopil, and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders have already repelled two enemy assaults near the settlements of Pyatykhatky, Stepove, and Shcherbaky. Five more clashes are ongoing.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy carried out air strikes on the settlement of Kozatske and two missile strikes on the areas of Novoselivka and Bila Krynytsia.
In the Siverskyi direction, Russians did not conduct offensive operations.
In Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian defense forces repelled 30 attacks by Russian invaders, with 13 clashes still ongoing. Additionally, the enemy carried out 27 airstrikes using 37 guided bombs and 500 artillery strikes on Ukrainian military positions and settlements, including 49 from multiple rocket launchers.
The General Staff also highlighted the actions of the 128th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces and the 34th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade, which resist the pressure of numerically superior Russian forces.
Enemy's losses
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, the country has already lost over 880,000 soldiers. In the past day alone, Ukrainian forces eliminated another 1,000 Russian forces.
As previously reported by the Ministry of Defense, last year was a record one for Russia in terms of personnel and military equipment losses. Over the year, Russian losses exceeded 400,000 military personnel.
Last month, the Russian army lost over 36,000 soldiers. This number is roughly equivalent to three motorized rifle divisions.
