Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 9
As of 4 p.m., February 9, 64 combat engagements have taken place at the front since the beginning of the day. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding back the enemy, while the Russian occupiers continue to focus their efforts on the Pokrovsk and Kursk directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russian shelling
Today, Russian artillery shelling affected the border areas of Ukrainian settlements, including:
- Pokrovka, Novodmytrivka, Shevchenkove, Velyka Pysarivka in Sumy region;
- Tymofiivka, Klynova-Novoselivka, Vidrodzhenivske in Kharkiv region;
- Bleshnia, Kostobobriv in Chernihiv region.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Kharkiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled one attack by Russian troops near Vovchansk, and another firefight is still ongoing. In addition, Russians launched an air strike with unguided missiles near Nesterne.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian forces tried to advance to Ukrainian positions in the areas of Bohuslavka, Petropavlivka, and Zahryzove four times during the day.
The Russian army increased the number of attacks to six in the Lyman direction. They attacked near Zelenyi Hai, Novoserhiivka, Yampolivka and Novoliubivka. One firefight is still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks in the area of Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, the Russian forces tried to advance five times in the areas of Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. Two firefights are currently underway.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian militants started clashes of varying intensity 26 times. Ukrainian troops repelled 22 Russian attacks in the areas of Zelene Pole, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Pishchane, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Andriivka, and Dachne. Four firefights are currently underway. Russians dropped two aerial bombs on Zvirove and Pokrovsk.
Fierce fighting continues in the Novopavlivka direction. Near Kostiantynopil, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled five Russian attacks during the day, and two more combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, Huliaipole and Chervone were attacked with Russian-guided bombs, and Novosilka was hit by unguided aerial missiles.
In the Orikhiv direction, the areas of Piatykhatky and Kamianske were hit by unguided missiles.
In the Prydniprovsky direction, the Russians did not conduct any active operations.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces repelled 11 attacks by the Russian troops, and seven combat engagements are still ongoing. In addition, the Russians made 233 artillery attacks, including four from multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no significant changes in the situation in other directions.
Over the last day, from February 8 to February 9, the Russian army's losses in the war against Ukraine amounted to 1460 soldiers. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed an airplane, 83 drones, and 127 vehicles.
