Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 28

Since the beginning of January 27, there have been 130 combat engagements on the frontline. Russian forces are actively attacking in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy launched six assaults on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk and Starytsia.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defenses seven times in the areas of Kutkivka, Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Bohuslavka. Two clashes are ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army carried out seven assaults near Novoiehorivka, Bohuslavka, Makiivka, and the Serebrianskyi Forest. Two engagements are still underway. Ukrainian defenders are holding the line and inflicting losses on the enemy.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian positions near Bilohorivka, Novosilka, and Verkhniokamianske came under attack 11 times. Nine clashes are ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces are repelling 11 attacks near Predtechyne, Bila Hora, and Chasiv Yar. Ten attacks have already ended unsuccessfully for the Russian army.
In the Toretsk direction, there have been 13 clashes near Krymske, Dyliivka, Dachne, Toretsk, and Shcherbynivka since the start of the day. One enemy attack is still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted to drive back Ukrainian defenders 58 times in areas near Vodiane Druhe, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Sukhyi Yar, Lysivka, Zelenе, Vidrodzhennia, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Serhiivka, Udachne, Nadiivka, Uspenivka, Novovasylivka, Novooleksandrivka, Oleksiivka, Dachne, and Ulakly. Ukrainian forces repelled 44 attacks, while 14 engagements are ongoing.
In the Novopavlivka direction, seven enemy attacks occurred near Kostiantynopil, Novosilka, and Rozlyv.
In the Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi directions, Russian forces did not conduct active operations.
In the Kursk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks, and one engagement is still ongoing. The enemy also conducted 155 artillery strikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements in the region.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia has lost more than 833,000 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, the Russian forces lost 1,380 troops. Also yesterday, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed 5 tanks, 12 armored combat vehicles, 27 artillery systems, 72 operational and tactical UAVs, 86 vehicles, and 2 units of special equipment of the enemy.
