Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 20
As of the evening of January 20, 151 combat clashes were reported along the front lines. The heaviest concentration of attacks by Russian forces occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, with over 70 assaults recorded, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, the enemy carried out three missile strikes, 46 airstrikes involving five missiles and 71 guided bombs, and launched 1,065 kamikaze drone attacks. Over 4,000 artillery strikes targeted Ukrainian positions and settlements using various weaponry.
In the Kharkiv direction, two clashes with Russian forces occurred near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy made eight attempts to dislodge Ukrainian units from positions near Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, Lozova, and Zahrizove. One confrontation remains ongoing.
Fifteen attacks were launched in the Lyman direction, with Russian forces advancing near Nadiya, Novoyehorivka, Makiivka, Kopanky, Nevske, Terny, and toward Zarichne. Two engagements are still underway.
In the Siversk direction, Russian forces attempted to advance toward Verkhnokamianske but were repelled by Ukrainian troops.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Defense Forces thwarted nine enemy attempts to advance near the settlement of Chasiv Yar and toward Stupochky. Two clashes remain ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy tried 16 times to breach Ukrainian defenses. Since the start of the day, Russian forces have faced fierce resistance in areas near Toretsk, Krymske, Dyliyivka, Shcherbynivka, and Ozaryanivka, repelled 13 times by Ukrainian defenders. Three attacks are still in progress.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy is intensively assaulting Ukrainian positions. Over the day, the Russian army carried out 72 offensive and assault actions.
The highest activity of Russian forces is concentrated near the settlements of Vodiane Druhe, Myroliubivka, Promin, Yelyzavetivka, Myrnohrad, Kotlyne, Nadiyivka, Andriivka, Shevchenko, Dachne, Ulakly, and Yantarne. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 65 attacks in this sector, with seven ongoing clashes.
Today, enemy losses in this area amounted to 337 personnel, including 143 killed. Additionally, 13 vehicles, three satellite communication systems, and 17 drones were destroyed. A combat armored vehicle and another vehicle belonging to the occupiers were also damaged.
In the Novopavlivka direction, seven enemy assault actions were halted as Russian forces attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions near Kostyantynopil, Rozlyv, Velyka Novosilka, and toward Pryvilne.
Ukrainian troops repelled four enemy attacks in the Prydniprovskyi direction.
In the Kursk direction, 11 clashes were recorded today, and four are still ongoing. The enemy also launched 16 airstrikes involving 24 guided bombs and conducted 337 artillery shelling incidents.
In the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions, no active offensive operations have been reported since the start of the day. However, the enemy continues to shell Ukrainian positions and civilian infrastructure while employing aviation.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, Russia has lost over 820,000 military personnel since the beginning of its full-scale war against Ukraine.
In the past 24 hours alone, Russian forces suffered 1,690 casualties.
Additionally, Ukrainian troops neutralized 10 tanks, 42 armored fighting vehicles, 19 artillery systems, 3 air defense systems, 153 operational-tactical drones, 87 vehicles, and 6 pieces of specialized enemy equipment.
