Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 16

There have been 89 combat engagements on the front since the beginning of the day. The heaviest fighting has been recorded in the Pokrovsk and Kursk directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched three assaults on the positions of our units near Petropavlivka and Pishchane.
In the Lyman direction, the occupying army carried out nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Kopanky, Novoselivka, Hrekivka, Novoplatonivka, Terny, and Zarichne. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the Defense Forces repelled three attacks by Russian troops, with one engagement still ongoing. The enemy attacked our defensive positions near Verkhniokamianske and Ivano-Dariivka. Siversk was also hit by enemy aviation.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russian army launched six attacks in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, and Hryhorivka. In the Toretsk direction, there were eight enemy attacks in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, Leonidivka, and Shcherbynivka. Ukrainian soldiers have already repelled two of them, and the fighting continues.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russian forces have made 31 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of Vodiane Druhe, Zelene Pole, Yelyzavetivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Kurakhove, Dachne, and Yantarne.
The Defense Forces have repelled 30 enemy attacks, and one engagement is still ongoing.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the invaders attacked ten times near Kostiantynopil, Velyka Novosilka, and Vremivka. Three of the enemy attacks have been repelled. The fighting continues. The enemy bombed Novopil and Kostyantynopil with KABs (guided aerial bombs).
In the Orikhiv direction, the occupying forces launched one assault on our positions near Novodanylivka.
The enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to assault our defenders' positions in the Prydniprovskyi direction.
In the Kharkiv and Huliaipole directions, the enemy has not conducted any active operations since the beginning of the day.
The operation in the Kursk region continues. Ukrainian soldiers have repelled eight attacks by the occupying forces today, and three combat engagements are still ongoing. The enemy carried out 250 artillery strikes, including one from a multiple rocket launcher system.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia has lost more than 814,000 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, Ukrainian soldiers eliminated 1,480 Russian troops. Additionally, yesterday, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 11 tanks, 20 armored combat vehicles, 40 artillery systems, 120 drones, and other enemy equipment.
