Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 15

Ukrainian defense forces are holding back the Russian offensive. However, the Russian army continues to destroy Ukrainian cities and villages with missile, air and artillery strikes, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"Operational information as of 4:00 p.m. on January 15, 2025, regarding the Russian invasion: 48 combat engagements have occurred," the military reported.
According to the General Staff, today the communities of Halahanivka in the Chernihiv region, Oleksandrivka, Popivka, and Prohres in the Sumy region, and Vidrodzhenske and Tymoshchiivka in the Kharkiv region were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kharkiv direction, one battle took place near Tykhe.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian positions twice near the settlements of Topolia and Petropavlivka, with fighting ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched 12 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Kopanky, Novoserhiivka, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, Kolodiazi, Terny, and Hryhorivka. Six clashes are still ongoing. Enemy aviation carried out strikes with unguided air-to-surface missiles on Zelenyi Hai.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian assaults. The enemy, supported by aviation, attempted to break through to Predtechyne and near Chasiv Yar. Additionally, the enemy carried out an airstrike on Minkivka.
In the Toretsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy assaults near Toretsk. Furthermore, the enemy carried out an airstrike with a guided bomb on Kramatorsk.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces made 17 attempts to push back Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Baranivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelenе, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Andriivka, and Dachne.
The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled nine enemy attacks, with eight combat engagements still ongoing.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses near the settlement of Vremivka. The battle continues.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy carried out an airstrike with unguided air-to-surface missiles in the area of Piatykhatky.
In the Kursk direction, 11 clashes have taken place since the start of the day, eight of which are still ongoing. Additionally, the enemy carried out seven airstrikes, dropping 12 guided bombs.
Russian losses in Ukraine
During the past day, Russia's losses totaled over 1,500 soldiers. Ukrainian forces also destroyed 13 tanks, 22 armored combat vehicles, 52 artillery systems, 2 air defense systems, 107 operational-tactical UAVs, and 204 vehicles.
