Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 8

The situation on the front is characterized by heightened enemy activity in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions. Since the beginning of the day on January 8, there have been 111 clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Today, in the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops have launched four assaults on the defensive positions of the Ukrainian military. Fighting continues near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy has actively attacked Ukrainian positions eight times, in the areas of Holubivka, Zahryzove, and Petropavlivka. Six enemy attacks are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the invaders carried out nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near Nadiia, Kopanki, Novoiehorivka, Ivanivka, and Terny. Six clashes have ended, while three are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attempted to advance on our positions near Bilohorivka twice, but both attacks were repelled by Ukrainian forces.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the invaders carried out airstrikes on Vasiukivka, Pryvillia, Markove, and Nykyforivka, dropping seven guided aerial bombs.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy focused its efforts on advancing in the areas of Toretsk and Dyliivka, where five clashes have taken place, and fighting is ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the start of the day, the Russian troops have launched 26 attempts to push back our defenders from their positions in the areas of Myroliubivka, Baranivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Zvirove, Novy Trud, Kotlyne, and Nadiivka. The defense forces are holding the line, having repelled 21 enemy attacks so far, with five clashes ongoing. Enemy losses are being clarified.
Fighting continues near Dachne, Kurakhove, Shevchenko, Petropavlivka, Sloviansk, and Yasenove in the Kurakhove direction. According to updated information, 18 out of 25 attacks by the Russian army have been repelled today. Intense fighting continues.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy has attempted to storm our positions ten times near Novosilka, Kostiantynopilske, Yantarne, and toward Kostiantynopil. Two clashes are still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russian forces carried out an airstrike with unguided rockets on Kamianske.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders have repelled 16 enemy attacks today, with six clashes ongoing.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine, Russia has lost over 801,000 military personnel.
In particular, over the past 24 hours, the Russian army has lost another 1,660 soldiers. Additionally, yesterday, the Defense Forces destroyed 4 tanks, 16 armored combat vehicles, 19 artillery systems, 19 operational-tactical drones, and 81 vehicles.
