Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 7

As of the evening of January 7, 159 combat engagements occurred in the frontline. Russian forces are actively attacking in the Pokrovsk direction and in the Kursk region, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled four enemy attacks near Vovchansk and Tykhe. Currently, one attack is ongoing in the Tavilzhanka area.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched three assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions near Topoli, Holubivka, and Petropavlivka. All attacks were successfully repelled, with no gains for Russian forces.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops conducted 13 assaults on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Novoserhiivka, Nadiia, Pershotravneve, Cherneshchyna, Makiivka, Zarichne, Terny, and Ivanivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled seven enemy attacks near Bilohorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian forces attacked seven times near Vasiukivka, Bondarne, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky. Two clashes are still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian troops launched seven assaults on Ukrainian positions near Toretsk, Pivnichne, and Shcherbynivka. Two combat engagements remain active.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces carried out 38 assault and offensive operations throughout the day. Their activity was concentrated in the areas of Tarasivka, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Novovasylivka, and Nadiivka. The enemy used 16 guided aerial bombs targeting Pokrovsk.
Today, Ukrainian troops eliminated 171 and wounded 218 Russian soldiers in this direction. They also destroyed two armored fighting vehicles and two motorcycles. Additionally, a tank and four enemy vehicles were significantly damaged.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces have been attacking intensively, with 17 clashes recorded so far. Ukrainian troops repelled assaults near Sribne, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Kurakhove, and Dachne. One combat engagement is ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy attempted 20 breakthroughs near Yantarne, Kostiantynopolske, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopol, Novosilka, and Pryvilne. Two clashes are still underway.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian forces repelled a single enemy attack near Novosilka. The Russian forces failed to achieve any success.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made two unsuccessful attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defense forces near Kozatskyi Island.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russian forces did not conduct active operations.
In Russia's Kursk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 25 enemy attacks over the course of the day. Six combat engagements are ongoing.
Enemy's losses
According to the General Staff, Russia has lost more than 800,000 troops since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Over the past day, the Russian military lost an additional 1,970 soldiers. Ukrainian forces also destroyed 10 tanks, 25 armored fighting vehicles, 45 artillery systems, and other equipment belonging to the enemy.
