Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 21

Since the beginning of the day, 169 combat engagements occurred along the frontline. Most of the enemy's losses were in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched one missile strike and 35 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, dropping 60 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, Russians used 629 kamikaze drones and carried out over 4,000 attacks on Ukrainian positions and civilian areas.
Enemy's losses were most significant in the Pokrovsk direction. Since this morning, the enemy launched 24 attacks near Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Dachenske, and Novovasylivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled 20 assaults, with four engagements still ongoing.
Preliminary reports indicate that Ukrainian forces neutralized 404 enemy personnel in this area today, including 193 killed. They also destroyed one tank, nine vehicles, two automatic grenade launchers, and a satellite communication system, while an artillery system sustained damage.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy launched six unsuccessful assaults on Ukrainian positions near Kozacha Lopan, Vysoka Yaruga, and Vovchansk.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the enemy's losses in this direction today include 85 personnel killed or wounded. Ukrainian forces also destroyed two artillery systems, one vehicle, five UAVs, and three pieces of specialized equipment. Additionally, a vehicle and another piece of specialized equipment sustained significant damage.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces conducted offensive actions near Petropavlivka and Kruhliakivka. Ukrainian defenders stopped two assaults, with two clashes still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 19 times near Zelenyi Hai, Hrekivka, Terny, and Ivanivka. One engagement continues.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy assaults toward Verkhniokamianske and Bilohorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy launched two assaults on Ukrainian positions near Stupochky, both repelled.
In the Toretsk direction, one battle is currently underway. Earlier today, Ukrainian units repelled four attacks near Toretsk and Druzhba.
In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses 13 times near Stari Terny, Kurakhove, and Dachne. Eight combat engagements were completed, and five more are still ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 41 times near Uspenivka, Yantarne, Novosilka, Blahodatne, Rozlyv, and Odradne. Intense fighting continues, with Ukrainian defenders repelling 29 assaults.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces launched seven assaults on Ukrainian positions near Novoandriivka and Pyatikhatky. One engagement is ongoing.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two attacks. The enemy made no progress.
In Russia’s Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders reportedly repelled 39 enemy attacks today. Fierce battles are still underway.
Notably, according to the General Staff of Ukraine, Russian forces lost 1,860 personnel at the front over the past 24 hours, from December 20 to December 21. Ukrainian forces also destroyed 10 tanks, 32 artillery systems, and 98 vehicles.
