Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 18

Since the beginning of the day on December 18, 224 combat engagements occurred at the frontline. The Kursk region and the Pokrovsk direction remain the most intense areas regarding the number of hostile attacks, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military command updated the operational situation at the frontline as of 10:00 PM Kyiv time on December 18.
Enemy shelling
Russian forces launched one missile strike and 32 airstrikes, dropping 31 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, the enemy deployed 529 kamikaze drones and carried out more than 3,200 shellings on Ukrainian defense positions and settlements.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces conducted one assault near Vovchansk. Ukrainian defenders repelled the enemy's attempt to advance.
According to preliminary estimates, the enemy lost 44 servicemen killed and wounded in this direction today. The Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed three artillery systems, one vehicle, 17 UAVs, and two special vehicles and damaged a car and three units of special equipment.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces launched attacks near Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, and Lozova. Ukrainian forces stopped 18 enemy assaults.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched 21 assaults on Ukrainian positions near Hrekivka, Novoyehorivka, Nadiia, Yampolivka, and Terny but were repelled. Three clashes are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled four enemy attempts to launch attacks. One battle continues near Verkhniokamianske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attempted to advance five times near Chasiv Yar, Hryhorivka, and Bila Hora. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, 13 battles took place. The enemy launched assaults on Ukrainian positions near Toretsk, Diliivka, and Shcherbynivka. Ten enemy attacks were repelled, and the fighting continued.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces launched 45 attacks in the areas of Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysyivka, Dachenske, Zelene, Novovasylivka, Chumatske, and Novoolenivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled 38 assaults, and seven battles continued.
"Today, in this direction, preliminary reports indicate that 255 Russians were neutralized, including 110 killed. A quad bike and enemy satellite communication equipment were also destroyed," the General Staff report stated.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces attempted to breach the Ukrainian defenses 22 times near Sontsivka, Stari Terny, Kurakhove, and Dachne. Eighteen clashes have concluded, and four are ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions 24 times near Kostiantynopolske, Rozlyv, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne, Novyi Komar, and Storozheve. Ukrainian forces are holding their ground, with ten battles still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attempted to break through to Novoandriivka but suffered losses and retreated.
In the Pryndiprosvkyi direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to attack Ukrainian positions twice.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces repelled 55 Russian assaults, with three battles still ongoing.
Notably, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, the Russian army lost another 1,580 soldiers on December 18.
