Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 9
Since the early hours of October 9, 119 combat engagements have been recorded along the front. The heaviest fighting is concentrated in the Kurakhove direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched one missile strike on Ukrainian territory, deploying three missiles, and conducted 58 airstrikes (dropping 104 guided aerial bombs). They also utilized 694 kamikaze drones.
In total, the enemy carried out 3,324 shelling attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian army attacked the areas of Vovchansk and Tykhe four times throughout the day. The settlements of Tsupivka, Lyptsi, and Slatyne were subjected to bombardment.
The enemy launched seventeen assaults against Ukrainian military positions in the Kupiansk direction near Kucherivka, Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Vyshneve, Novoosynove, Zelenyi Hai, and Kruhlyakivka. Five clashes are still ongoing.
The areas around the settlements of Hrekivka, Andriivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Katerynivka, and Torske in the Lyman direction were attacked by Russian forces 18 times. Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 of the enemy's assaults, with fighting continuing near Druzhelyubivka and Novosadove.
The Russian army carried out seven assault operations in the areas of Minkivka, Chasiv Yar, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Bila Hora, and Stupochky in the Kramatorsk direction throughout the day. The situation remains under the control of defense forces.
In the Toretsk direction, the Russian army, with air support, attacked near Toretsk, Nelipivka, Shcherbynivka, and Dylivka 11 times.
A high intensity of combat operations continues in the Pokrovsk direction, where the number of clashes has risen to 25. The Russian forces are maintaining pressure on our positions near Sukha Balka, Novotoretske, Myroliubivka, Krutyi Yar, Promin, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, and Selydove.
Our defenders have halted 23 assaults so far. The main efforts - 13 assaults - are concentrated near Selydove, where two clashes are ongoing.
Preliminary enemy losses in this direction amount to 189 Russian soldiers killed and wounded. Additionally, three electronic warfare systems, one artillery system, two vehicles, one buggy, and a motorcycle were destroyed, along with damage inflicted on one cannon and an armored fighting vehicle.
Today, the Kurakhove direction has seen the most combat engagements of varying intensity, with a total of 31 attempts recorded to capture our positions, three of which are still ongoing.
The Russian forces have been particularly active in attempting to advance in the areas of Hirnyk, Novoselydivka, Kurakhivka, Tsukuryne, Hostre, Heorhiivka, Kostiantynivka, Katerynivka, and Antonivka.
The Russian army launched six assaults on the front line of our defenses in the Bohoyavlenka area in the Vremivka direction today. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled all attempts to push them back from their positions. Furthermore, the invaders employed assault aviation, using unguided aerial rockets to strike the settlement of Rozdolne.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, four attempts to seize the positions of our troops were unsuccessful.
"The defense forces continue operations in the Kursk region. According to available information, the Russian army launched 7 airstrikes, deploying 15 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 165 artillery shellings of settlements in the Kursk region," the General Staff added.
Frontline situation and Russia's losses
According to preliminary data from the General Staff, the enemy continues its attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory. The Russian army is most active in the Kurakhove and Pokrovsk directions.
Over the past day, the Russian army has lost 1,150 soldiers at the front, as well as 4 tanks, 11 armored fighting vehicles, 19 artillery systems, and other equipment.
