Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 24
Over the past 24 hours, there have been 119 combat engagements along the frontline in Ukraine, with the most intense fighting continuing in the Pokrovsk direction, where 45 battles have taken place near seven settlements, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military command provided an update on the operational situation as of 10:00 p.m. on August 24 (according to the Kyiv time zone).
Enemy shelling
Russian troops launched two attacks on Ukrainian territory during the day, firing 10 missiles and conducting 71 airstrikes, dropping 95 guided bombs.
Additionally, the enemy deployed 506 kamikaze drones for strikes. Russian troops also carried out over 3,100 artillery strikes on Ukrainian defense positions and civilian areas.
Frontline situation
The General Staff noted that Ukrainian forces continue to fiercely repel the enemy’s attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, while also inflicting significant fire damage on Russian troops.
"The hottest situation remains in the Pokrovsk direction," the report said.
In the Kharkiv direction, two clashes occurred near the settlements of Hlyboke and Vovchansk, with one ongoing battle.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions near Synkivka, Novoselivka, and Stelmakhivka 10 times. Nine of these engagements have concluded, while one is still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, there were 11 combat engagements as the enemy attempted assaults near Druzheliubivka, Makiivka, Novosadove, and Dibrova. Currently, two attacks are ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled four enemy assaults near Vyimka and Spirne. Three of these attacks were halted, while one is still underway. The situation remains under the control of Ukrainian defense forces.
In the Kramatorsk direction, 16 battles took place near Hryhorivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky, with three continuing engagements.
In the Toretsk direction, there were nine clashes, as Russian forces attacked Ukrainian troops near Dyliivka, Nelipivka, and Toretsk. Currently, one enemy assault is ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, 45 battles occurred near the settlements of Vozdvyzhenka, Zelene Pole, Hrodivka, Myroliubivka, Novohrodivka, Kalynove, and Ptyche. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled 41 of these attacks, with four continuing.
"Today in this direction, 288 enemy troops were neutralized, with 121 killed in action. Additionally, an infantry fighting vehicle, a self-propelled artillery system, a 120-mm mortar, three UAVs, three vehicles, and three motorcycles were destroyed," the General Staff reported.
Moreover, the military command added that a tank, an armored personnel carrier, an armored recovery vehicle, six artillery systems, a mortar, and 11 enemy vehicles were damaged.
In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions near Karlivka, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Kostiantynivka 15 times. Eleven of these engagements have concluded, while four remain ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, Russian troops conducted three unsuccessful offensive operations toward Vuhledar, Vodiane, and Katerynivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attempted to attack Ukrainian defensive positions near Mala Tokmachka and Novoandriivka but failed.
The General Staff also added that there were no significant changes in other directions.
Earlier, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine revealed how border guards are using drones to destroy enemy targets in the Kramatorsk direction, releasing a video of the operations.
It was previously reported by the General Staff that Russian forces have been conducting active offensive operations in the Pokrovsk direction, attempting to improve their tactical position. However, Ukrainian forces have been inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in both personnel and equipment.
