Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 20
Over the past day, the Ukrainian military recorded 158 combat engagements with the Russian occupiers, with more than a third of them taking place in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russia carried out a missile attack, 78 air strikes, dropped 103 guided aerial bombs, and used 1,448 kamikaze drones to attack the positions of Ukrainian units and settlements.
The Russians continued their offensive in the Kharkiv sector, particularly in Lyptsi and Vovchansk, where 5 combat engagements occurred. In the Kupiansk sector, 14 clashes took place, where the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled attacks near Hlushkivka, Stelmakhivka, and other localities.
The situation was particularly tense in the Lyman sector, where Ukrainian troops stopped 11 Russian attacks in the areas of Hrekivka, Makiivka, and Torske. In the Toretsk sector, Russia made 24 attempts to break through the defenses, operating in the areas of Pivnichne, New York, and Toretsk, where it struck 5 times with 9 guided aerial bombs.
Russian troops were most active in the Pokrovsk sector, where Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 63 attacks, particularly in the areas of Novohrodivka, Mykhailivka, and Vozdvyzhenka.
Ukrainian aviation, missile forces, and artillery struck 9 times at Russian concentration areas, one at a command post, another at an air defense facility, and several at other important Russian targets.
The situation remains stable in the Volyn and Polissia sectors, with no signs of Russian offensive groups forming. On the border with the Chernihiv region, Russians maintain a military presence and conduct reconnaissance.
Russia's losses in war against Ukraine
Over the past 24 hours, Russia lost 1,330 soldiers, 26 armored combat vehicles, and 52 artillery systems in the war against Ukraine. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost 601,800 soldiers.
