Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of June 17

There have been 42 combat engagements since the beginning of the day. Russia is actively attacking the Lyman and Pokrovsk directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Since the beginning of this day, 42 combat engagements have already taken place. The Russian invaders carried out 27 strikes with kamikaze drones and fired more than 500 times at the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements," the General Staff writes.
Situation on frontlines
In the Kharkiv sector, Russians attacked twice near Vovchansk. The fighting continues.
In the Kupiansk sector, a battle is taking place near Pishchane.
In the Lyman sector, Russia is attacking the areas of Hrekivka, Makiivka, and Torske. A total of seven firefights are taking place.
Russia's attacks near Vyimka and Rozdolivka continue in the Siversk sector.
In the Kramatorsk sector, two unsuccessful combat engagements took place near Klishchiyivka.
In the Pokrovsk sector, the Russians made 14 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions. One attack towards Novooleksandrivka was repelled. Fighting continues in the areas of Yevhenivka, Novoselivka Persha, Umanske and Novooleksandrivka. Russia is most active near the latter.
In the Kurakhove sector, Russia is trying to attack the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Paraskoviivka. 4 Russian attacks were successfully repelled by Ukrainian troops. The assault near Krasnohorivka continues.
In the Orikhiv sector, Russians unsuccessfully attempted to attack the areas of Robotyne and Mala Tokmachka.
"Due to the flexibility of the Ukrainian defense system and the coordination of actions of the units, Ukrainian soldiers are confidently holding their positions. In some places, they are conducting active operations. In particular, in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian soldiers captured a Russian tank and took several Russian occupants prisoner," the General Staff adds.
Russia's losses in war against Ukraine
Over the past 24 hours, on June 16, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed another 1080 Russian occupants. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost about 527,390 personnel.
Also yesterday, the Ukrainian military destroyed:
- 2 tanks;
- 18 armored combat vehicles;
- 14 artillery systems and more.
