Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 9

In Ukraine, 146 combat engagements took place in the frontline over the last day. The enemy increased the number of attacks in almost all directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
Russian attacks
In total, the enemy launched 60 missile and 90 air strikes, fired 107 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
At night, the Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine once again, using 20 Shahed-136/131 UAVs. The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 17 attack UAVs.
Over the past day, the following localities were hit by air strikes:
- Shalyhine, Yunakivka, Sumy region;
- Bilyi Kolodiaz, Staryi Saltiv and Lukiantsi in Kharkiv region;
- Lyman, Chasiv Yar, Druzhba, Pivnichne, Oleksandropil, Stara Mykolaivka, Novoselivka Persha, Karlivka, Moskovske, Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, Novopokrovske, Umanske, Netaylove, Urozhayne, Kostiantynivka and Staromayorske in Donetsk Oblast;
- Veselianka, Orikhiv, Robotyno, Zaporizhzhia region;
- Olhivka, Beryslav, Kizomys, Kherson region.
- More than 110 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia direction remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske direction, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled 16 attacks in the areas of Petropavlivka, Synkivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 11 attacks near Makiivka, Nevske, Novolyubivka, Tverdokhlibove, and Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 26 attacks in the vicinity of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Andriivka, Verkhnekamianske, Novyi, Vyymka, Ivanivske, and Klishchiyivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 45 attacks in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Yevhenivka, Sokil, Novoselivka Persha, Kalynove, Novopokrovske, Semenivka, Umanske, Netaylove and Nevelske in Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the military continued to hold back the enemy near Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka, Paraskoviivka, Vodyane, and Urozhayne in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops 11 times.
In the Orikhivsk direction, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders 19 times near Staromayorske, Donetsk region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy has not abandoned its intention to drive our units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, over the past day, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked the positions of our troops 4 times.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces and units of the missile forces struck 3 air defense systems, 2 artillery systems, 10 areas of personnel concentration, and 1 other important enemy object.
As a reminder, on the night of May 9, Russian invaders launched 20 Shahed drones at Ukraine, and the air defense forces shot down 17 of them.
Meanwhile, the Russians are advancing in several directions simultaneously.
The Institute of War Studies noted that Russia is firing missiles at Ukraine's energy facilities to slow down the defense industry and the supply of Western weapons to the front.
