Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 8

In Ukraine, 84 combat engagements were registered in the frontline over the last day. The situation was the most intense in the Avdiivka sector, where our defenders repelled 27 attacks by the occupants, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
In total, the enemy launched 1 missile and 47 air strikes and fired 97 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
At night, the Russian occupants attacked Ukraine once again, launching a massive missile attack. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks resulted in civilian casualties. A number of high-rise buildings and other civilian and energy infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged. Detailed information is being updated.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanskу directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border. The defense forces prevented the penetration of an enemy subversive reconnaissance group near the village of Palna in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our troops repelled 16 attacks in the vicinity of Sinkivka, Pishchane, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled three attacks near Nevske in the Luhansk region and Terny in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 17 attacks near Verkhne Kamianske, Vyimka, Spirne, Rozdolivka, Ivanivske, Novyi, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our troops repelled 27 attacks in the areas of Oleksandropil, Novooleksandrivka, Prohres, Yevhenivka, Novoselivka Persha, Umanske and Netaylove in the Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka, Vodyane, and Urozhayne in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops 11 times.
In the Orikhivsk direction, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders 6 times near Staromayorske in the Donetsk region; Robotyne, and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units from the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, over the past day, it made 3 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our troops.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces and missile troops struck a 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled mortar, a control center, 1 fuel and oil supply depot and 5 areas where enemy personnel were concentrated.
