Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 8

There have been 48 combat engagements on the front, Ukrainian soldiers repelled Russian attacks on the left bank of the Dnieper River and damaged two enemy EW stations, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
During the day, 48 combat engagements were recorded. Overall, the enemy launched 3 missile strikes and 76 airstrikes, conducted 61 shelling attacks from rocket artillery systems on our troops' positions and populated areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Multi-story and private houses, as well as other infrastructure objects, suffered destruction and damage.
Situation at frontlines
In the Volyn and Polissia direction, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes observed in the formation of enemy offensive groupings.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske direction, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, and shells populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the vicinity of the populated area of Bilopillia in the Sumy region and the city of Sumy.
Artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy targeted approximately 15 populated areas, including Bachivsk, Starykove, Volfyne, Khotin, Pysarivka, and Ryasne in the Sumy region; Udy, Kozacha Lopan, and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions, but conducted airstrikes in the areas of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
Approximately 15 populated areas, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Kotliarivka in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, our troops repelled one enemy attack in the area of the populated area of Terny in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the vicinity of the populated area of Makiivka and the Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region.
Over 10 populated areas, including Makiivka, Terny, and Torske in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy conducted 8 attacks in the areas of the populated areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, attempted to improve tactical positions. The enemy also carried out airstrikes in the areas of the populated areas of Ivanivske, Rozdolivka, and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region.
Over 10 populated areas, including Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Bohdanivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 2 attacks in the area of the populated area of Berdychiv in the Donetsk region, where the enemy attempted to displace our units from their positions. Additionally, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of the populated areas of Novobakhmutivka, Novoselivka Persha, Ocheretyne, and Umanske in the Donetsk region.
Approximately 20 populated areas, including Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Netaylove, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of the populated areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Novomykhailivka, where the enemy, with aviation support, attempted to break through our troops' defense 20 times. The enemy also carried out airstrikes in the areas of the populated areas of Oleksandrivka, Vodyane, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region.
Over 20 populated areas, including Heorhiivka, Paraskeviivka, and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy, with aviation support, conducted 2 attacks on the positions of our defenders in the area of the populated area of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. Additionally, the enemy carried out an airstrike in the vicinity of the populated area of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Approximately 20 populated areas, including Poltavka, Chervone, Bilohiria, Novodanylivka, and Lobkove in the Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, over 10 populated areas, including Mykilske, Tyahynka, Beryslav in the Kherson region, and the city of Kherson, came under enemy shelling.
Situation on the left bank of the Dnipro River
The enemy persists in its intention to displace our units from the bridgeheads on the right bank of the Dnieper.
During the day, the enemy conducted 3 unsuccessful attacks on our troops' positions.
Russian losses
During the day, the Defense Forces aviation struck 4 anti-aircraft missile systems and 7 areas of concentration of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment of the enemy.
Missile troops units inflicted damage on 1 anti-aircraft defense system, 2 electronic warfare stations, and 2 areas of concentration of enemy personnel.
It is worth noting that the total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 448,400 military personnel.
