Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 8

There have been 74 skirmishes on the front line, Ukrainian soldiers repelled Russian attacks near Terny (Donetsk region) and hit an enemy ammunition depot, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The enemy continues its aggressive war. Despite significant losses, it refuses to abandon plans for the complete occupation of Ukraine, ignores the laws and customs of war, uses terrorist tactics, strikes military and civilian targets alike. The adversary actively employs aviation and FPV-type quadcopters, and conducts assault operations with armored support.
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging. During the day, there were 74 combat engagements. Overall, the enemy delivered 7 missile and 67 aerial strikes, and conducted 79 shelling attacks from rocket artillery systems on our troops' positions and populated areas.
Unfortunately, there are civilian casualties as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Multistory and private houses, as well as other infrastructure objects, have suffered destruction and damage.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, there have been no significant changes in the operational situation. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groupings. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts reconnaissance activities, shells civilian settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine. The adversary carried out airstrikes in the areas of populated settlements Sopich, Sydorivka, and Volfyne in the Sumy region, and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.
Approximately 40 populated settlements, including Senkivka, Yeline, Bleshnia, and Lubiane in the Chernihiv region; Baranivka, Basivka, Zapsillia, and Hrabovske in the Sumy region; Kozacha Lopan, Vovchansk, Krasne, and Neskuchne in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
On the Kupiansk front, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders three times in the areas of populated settlements Synkivka and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region. Aerial strikes were carried out in the areas of populated settlements Synkivka, Tabaiivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region. Over 10 populated settlements, including Holubivka, Synkivka, and Kotliarivka in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, our forces repelled four enemy attacks in the areas of populated settlements Terny and Spirne in the Donetsk region, where the enemy attempted to break through the defense of our troops. Aerial strikes were carried out in the areas of populated settlements Bilohorivka and Makiivka in the Luhansk region and in the area of Serebrianske forestry. Approximately 15 populated settlements, including Makiivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terny and Serebrianka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, our defense forces repelled nine enemy attacks in the areas of populated settlements Andriivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to improve its tactical position. The enemy also carried out aerial strikes in the areas of populated settlements Holmivskyi and Druzhba in the Donetsk region. Approximately 10 populated settlements, including Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, New York, and Hryhorivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, our defenders repelled 14 enemy attacks in the areas of populated settlements Berdychiv, Orlivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out aerial strikes in the areas of populated settlements Novooleksandrivka, Prohres, Novobakhmutivka, and Berdychiv in the Donetsk region. Approximately 15 populated settlements, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Novopavlivka front, the defense forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Pobieda, Krasnohorivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, attempted to break through the defense of our troops 18 times. The enemy also carried out aerial strikes in the area of the populated settlement Volodymyrivka in the Donetsk region. Over 20 populated settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Paraskeviivka, and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Orihiv front, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders six times in the areas of populated settlements Robotyne and west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. Approximately 20 populated settlements, including Poltavka, Malynivka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Novodanilivka, and Piatyhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group on the Kherson front, the enemy carried out artillery and mortar shelling in the areas of over 20 populated settlements in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, including the city of Kherson, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Krynk, and Novotiahynka.
Enemy losses
During the day, the defense forces' aviation struck at 10 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment.
Units of the missile forces inflicted hits on 3 stations of electronic warfare, including two R-330Zh Zhitel stations, and 1 enemy ammunition depot.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 422,310 military personnel.
