Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 8

Ukrainian forces repelled 23 enemy attacks in the Avdiivka direction, holding their positions and repelling assaults by occupying forces in the Kherson direction. Aviation targeted 11 areas of enemy personnel concentration, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the past day, there were 86 skirmishes. In total, the enemy delivered 4 missiles and 74 aviation strikes and conducted 101 shelling attacks from reactive multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and fatalities among the civilian population. Multi-story and private houses, as well as other objects of civilian infrastructure, have been destroyed and damaged.
Aviation strikes targeted:
- Babelivka, Sumy region;
- Vovchansk, Ivanivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Kharkiv region;
- Yampolivka, Andriivka, Hryhorivka, Toretsk, Druzhba, Kostiantynivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretyne, Umanske, Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Urozhaine, Donetsk region;
- Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Zaporizhzhia region.
Over 150 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the transfer of our forces to threatening areas, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched two attacks near the settlement of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region, attempting to improve its tactical position.
In the Lyman direction, our troops repelled 13 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Terny, Spirne, Rozdolivka, Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 6 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Andriivka and Klischiivka, Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 23 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Berdychi, Tonenke, Orlivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Pobieda, Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region, where the enemy attempted to breach our troops' defense 27 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, our troops repelled 2 enemy attacks in the areas of Robotyne and west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold their positions. Despite significant losses, the enemy continues its attempts to dislodge our units from their positions. During the past day, the enemy carried out 3 unsuccessful assault actions.
At the same time, our soldiers continue actively to inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the defense aviation struck 11 areas where the enemy personnel were concentrated.
Missile troops units targeted 1 area of concentration of enemy personnel, 2 anti-aircraft defense facilities, 1 radio-electronic warfare station, and 1 fuel and lubricants depot of the enemy.
The total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 421,430 military personnel.
