Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 22

The enemy continues to wage an aggressive war. Despite significant losses, they refuse to abandon plans for the full occupation of Ukraine, ignore the laws and customs of war, employ terrorist tactics, strike military and civilian targets alike.

The adversary actively employs aviation and FPV-type quadcopters, conducts assault operations with armored support. The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains complex. Within the past day, there have been 81 combat engagements.

In total, the enemy carried out 50 aerial strikes and conducted 80 artillery bombardments from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of our forces and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Multi-story and private houses, as well as other infrastructure objects, have been damaged or destroyed.

Frontline situation

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes in the operational situation. There are no signs of the formation of advancing enemy groups. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are fulfilling tasks in border areas with Ukraine.

In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the Ukrainian state border.

Approximately 10 populated areas, including Karpovychi in the Chernihiv region and Iskryshchyne, Seredyna-Buda, Riasne, and Popivka in the Sumy region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy made four attempts to advance in the area of the settlement of Synkivka, the Kharkiv region. About 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, and Ivanivka in Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, our troops repelled 14 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Terny and Yampolivka, the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our forces. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements of Rozdolivka and Vesele in the Donetsk region.

About 10 populated areas, including Makiiivka, Nevske in the Luhansk region, Terny, Torske, Serebrianka, and Spirne in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Bakhmut direction, the defense forces repelled 8 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Andriivka, Bohdanivka Ivaniivske, Klishiivka, and Toretsk, where the enemy attempted to improve their tactical position.

Additionally, more than 10 populated areas, including Andriivka, Ivaniivske, and Klishiivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 7 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Orlivka, Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements of Berdychiv, Semenivka, Orlivka, Lastochkyne, and Tonenke.

About 20 populated areas, including Berdychiv, Semenivka, Severne, and Netailove in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of the settlements of Novomykhailivka and Pobieda, the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, attempted to break through our forces' defenses 31 times.

Additionally, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandropil, Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Paraskoviivka, and Novomykhailivka. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, and Paraskoviivka in the Donetsk region came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka direction, two enemy attacks were repelled in the area of the settlement of Zolota Nyva. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements of Vuhledar and Staromaiorske.

About 10 populated areas, including Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Staromaiorske, and Urozhaine, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the defense forces repelled 4 enemy attacks west of Verbovyi and in the area of Robotyne, the Zaporizhzhia region.

More than 15 populated areas, including Malynivka, Charivne, Bilohiria, and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.

In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, over 5 populated areas, including the city of Ochakiv in Mykolaiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive

The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge Ukrainian units from the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River.

During the day, there were 2 attempts to storm the positions of our troops.

Enemy losses

During the day, the defense forces' aviation struck 6 areas of personnel concentration and 3 enemy air defense missile systems.

Rocket forces units targeted 2 areas of personnel concentration, armaments, and military equipment, 1 logistics hub, 2 anti-aircraft defense assets, and 1 ground control station of the enemy.

The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion exceeds 407,000 soldiers.
