Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 31

In Ukraine, on the frontline, there were 88 combat engagements over the day. The adversary persists in attempts to capture Avdiivka and unsuccessfully tries to regain lost positions on the left bank of the Kherson region, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Russian attacks
In total, the enemy launched 9 missile strikes and 99 aerial attacks, carrying out 129 shelling episodes with rocket artillery on the positions of our troops and civilian areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Private and multi-story residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
During the night, Russian occupiers launched another assault, using 20 drones of the Shahed-136/131 type. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces successfully eliminated 14 enemy drones.
Locations affected by aerial attacks include Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Popivka in the Sumy region; Ustynivka in the Kharkiv region; Novoehorivka, Nevske, Serebryanske Forestry Area in the Luhansk region; Terny, Kolodiazi, Klishchiivka, Kostiantynivka, Oleksandropil, Ocheretyne, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Orlivka, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Heorhiyivka, Novomykhailivka, Staromaiorske, Rivnopil in the Donetsk region; Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Orihiv in the Zaporizhzhia region; Kachkarivka, Chervonyi Mayak, Tiahynka in the Kherson region.
Over 100 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains a military presence in border areas, engaging in active sabotage activities to prevent the redeployment of our forces to critical sectors. Additionally, they are increasing the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 5 enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks by occupiers in the areas of Terniv and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 6 enemy attacks near Bohdanivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who persist in attempting to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers steadfastly maintain their defense, inflicting significant losses on the invaders. During the past day, the Defense Forces repelled 26 attacks in the Avdiivka area and another 11 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, defenders continued to restrain the enemy near Heorhiivka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 16 attacks were repelled.
In the Shakhtarsk and Zaporizhzhia directions, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions.
In the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces continue efforts to expand the foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy persists in attempting to dislodge our units from their positions. Over the past day, the adversary conducted 15 unsuccessful assault actions.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the Defense Forces aviation conducted strikes on 11 areas with concentrations of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, as well as on 2 anti-aircraft missile complexes of the enemy.
Rocket Forces troops units targeted 1 area with concentrations of weaponry and military equipment, 2 ammunition depots, 9 artillery units, and 1 enemy radar station.
