Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 23

Over the past day, the enemy conducted a combined missile strike on Ukraine, using cruise, ballistic, aviation, and anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to updated information, a total of 44 means of aerial attack by the enemy were recorded:

• 4 anti-aircraft guided missiles S-300/S-400;
• 15 cruise missiles X-101/X-555/X-55;
• 8 missiles X-22;
• 12 ballistic missiles Iskander-M;
• 5 guided aviation missiles X-59/X-31.

As a result of the combat operations of the air defense forces, the following were destroyed:

• 15 cruise missiles X-101/X-555/X-55;
• 5 ballistic missiles Iskander-M;
• 2 guided aviation missiles X-59.

During the day, 42 combat clashes occurred. The enemy also delivered 81 airstrikes and conducted 39 rocket artillery shellings on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, there are casualties and about 100 wounded civilians, including children, due to Russian terrorist attacks.

Multistory and private houses, schools, a sports complex, and other civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and Kyiv region, Kharkiv and Pavlohrad in the Dnipro region, suffered destruction and damage.

Frontline situation

The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes. There are no signs of the enemy forming offensive groups. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.

In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shell settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.

The enemy conducted air strikes in the areas of Kozacha Lopan and Hatysche in the Kharkiv region. Artillery and mortar shelling by occupiers affected more than 40 settlements, including Tymonovychi, Arkhypivka in the Chernihiv region; Popivka, Atynske, Volfyne in the Sumy region; Veterynarne, Nesterne, Komisarove in the Kharkiv region.

In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled an attack near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy attempted to break through the defense of our troops.

Over 15 settlements, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks in the areas of Yampolivka and Torsk in the Donetsk region, and 2 more attacks near Bilohorivka and Serebrianka Forestry in the Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops. The enemy conducted air strikes in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terniv, Serebrianka in the Donetsk region.

Over 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar fire, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebrianka Forestry in the Luhansk region, and Torsk, Serebrianka, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the defense forces repelled 2 attacks near Bohdanivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve its tactical position. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Bohdanivka in the Donetsk region.

Close to 10 settlements, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and New York in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 4 attacks near Novobakhmutivka and Avdiivka, and another 8 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our troops.

Over 15 settlements, including Oleksandrivka, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretine, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Netailove in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to restrain the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomaiorske in the Donetsk region. Here, the occupiers, with the support of aviation, made 9 unsuccessful attempts to improve their tactical position.

The enemy also conducted air strikes in the area of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Yelyzavetivka were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. An aviation strike was made in the area of Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. Over 10 settlements, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Prychystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, our defenders repelled 4 attacks south of Chervone, west of Verbove, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to regain lost ground.

Over 25 settlements, including Charivne, Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, Lobkove, Piatykhatky, Stepnohirsk, Plavne in the Zaporizhzhia region, were under artillery and mortar fire.

In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out air strikes near Kachkariivka, Mylove, and Beryslav in the Kherson region.

Artillery shelling affected the regional center of the Kherson region and the areas of Mykhailivka, Sablukivka, Beryslav, Sadove, Antonivka, Stanislav in the Kherson region, as well as Solonchaky in еру Mykolaiv region. The occupiers also shelled the populated center of Ivanivka in the Kherson region using reactive volley fire systems.

Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge Ukrainian units from bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro.

During the day, the enemy launched 7 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our forces.

Enemy losses

Throughout the day, the Defense Forces aviation conducted strikes on 10 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as 2 anti-aircraft missile complexes and 1 enemy command post.

Rocket troops units targeted 1 area of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, 2 air defense systems, 9 artillery pieces, and 1 enemy electronic warfare station.

The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is almost 378,000 military personnel.
