Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 22

Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro, repelling Russian attacks near Synkivka (Kharkiv region) and damaging the enemy's radar station, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling continues
The Russian Federation continues its aggressive war, persisting in plans for the full occupation of Ukraine despite significant losses. The enemy disregards laws and conventions of war, employing terror tactics and targeting both military and civilian objects.
The adversary actively deploys aviation and FPV-type drones, conducting assaults with armored support. The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains challenging, with 53 reported clashes in the last 24 hours.
Overall, the enemy launched 2 missiles and 41 aviation strikes, as well as 28 artillery barrages from multiple rocket launchers on our troops' positions and civilian areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Private residences and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damages.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, there are no significant changes in the operational situation. No signs of offensive group formations have been detected. Belarusian Armed Forces units identified in border areas are fulfilling tasks in proximity to the Ukrainian border.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence near the border, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine.
Occupiers carried out airstrikes in the areas of populated settlements Graniv, Hryhorivka in the Kharkiv region. Over 50 populated areas, including Baranivka, Karpovychi, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region, Znob-Novhorodske, Marchykha Buda, Fotovyizh in the Sumy region, Udy, Okhrimivka, Zemlianky, Khatne in the Kharkiv region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kupiansk front, our defenders repelled 4 attacks near Synkivka, the Kharkiv region, where the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses. The enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Pishchane, the Kharkiv region, and Novoehorivka, the Luhansk region.
Approximately 15 populated areas, including Dvorichne, Masutivka, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, were under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, our forces repelled an enemy attack near Terniv, the Donetsk region, and 4 attacks near Makiivka, Biloherivka, and Serebriansk Forestry in the Luhansk region, where the enemy attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses.
Airstrikes were conducted in the areas of Biloherivka, Serebrianoske Forestry in the Luhansk region, and Terniv, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Karmazynivka, Nevske, Dibrovna in the Luhansk region, and Ivanivka, Verkhniokamyanske, and Spirne in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian forces repelled 7 attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to improve its tactical position. The enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Bohdanivka, Khromove, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Maiorske in the Donetsk region.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Kurdiumivka, New York in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Avdiivka front, Ukrainian forces repelled 9 enemy attacks in the areas of Stepove, Avdiivka, and another 5 attacks near Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses.
The enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and Vodiane in the Donetsk region. Over 15 populated areas, including Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, Netailove, Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Maryinka front, Ukrainian forces continue to resist the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka, the Donetsk region, where the enemy failed 16 times to improve its tactical position. The enemy conducted airstrikes in the area of Novomykhailivka, the Donetsk region.
Populated areas, such as Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Heorhiivka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Paraskeviiivka in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Shakhtarsk front, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. Airstrikes were carried out in the areas of Staromaiorske, the Donetsk region, and Novodarivka, the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Pretchystivka, Zolota Nнva, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, Ukrainian forces repelled an enemy attack near Robotyne, the Zaporizhzhia region, where the occupiers unsuccessfully tried to restore their lost position.
Over 15 populated areas, including Poltavka, Huliaypole, Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group on the Kherson front, the regional center of the Kherson region, as well as the areas near the populated settlements of Shliakhove, Berislav, Antonivka in the Kherson region and Solonchaky, Chornomorka in еру Mykolaiv region, were shelled by the enemy's artillery.
The enemy also shelled areas of populated settlements Ivanivka, Poniativka, Yantarne, Berehove, Veletenke in the Kherson region with reactive volley fire systems.
Ukrainian forces advance
The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge Ukrainian units from footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. In the past 24 hours, the adversary attempted one unsuccessful assault on our positions.
Enemy losses
During this period, the Ukrainian Defense Forces' aviation conducted strikes in 8 areas of the enemy's personnel, equipment, and military vehicle concentrations. Additionally, one guided aviation missile X-59 was successfully neutralized by the Ukrainian air defense.
Rocket troops targeted and struck 1 command post, 1 artillery unit, and 1 enemy radar station.
It is worth noting that the overall losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amount to 376,860 military personnel.
