Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, repelling Russian attacks near Bohdanivka (Donetsk region) and striking the occupant command center, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling continues
The Russian Federation continues its aggressive war. Despite significant losses, it persists in its plans for the full occupation of Ukraine. The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, employing tactics of terror and launching attacks on both military and civilian targets.
The adversary actively employs aviation and FPV-type quadcopters, conducting assault operations with armored support. The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains complex, with 114 skirmishes reported in the last day.
Overall, the enemy conducted 1 missile and 48 aviation strikes, as well as 38 shelling attacks from reactive multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our forces and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have also suffered damage.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, there are no significant changes in the operational situation. No signs of the formation of offensive groupings have been detected. Belarusian Armed Forces units are identified in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, and shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation. The density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine is increasing.
Russian occupiers carried out airstrikes in the areas of Vovchansk and Mykolaivka in the Kharkiv region. Approximately 20 settlements, including Klyusy in the Chernihiv region; Radianske in the Sumy region; Stohni, Udy, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Bochkove, Nesterne in the Kharkiv region, suffered artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kupiansk front, our defenders repelled 18 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Tabaivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy attempted to break through the defense.
The enemy also carried out airstrikes in the areas of Holubivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, and Tabaivka in the Kharkiv region. Approximately 10 settlements, including Dvorichna, Masyutivka, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, Ukrainian forces repelled 14 enemy attacks in the areas of Terniv, Yampolivka in the Donetsk region, and another 7 attacks in the areas of Serebrianske forestry, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break the defense. Approximately 15 settlements, including Karmazynivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Dibrova, Serebranka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian forces repelled 2 enemy attacks in the area of Bohdanivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, unsuccessfully attempted to improve its tactical position. Approximately 10 settlements, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klyshchivka, Andriivka, New York in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 22 enemy attacks in the areas of Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and another 14 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break the defense. Approximately 15 settlements, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Stepove, Orlivka, Avdiivka, and Severne in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Maryinka front, Ukrainian forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy made 13 attempts to improve its tactical position.
The enemy conducted an airstrike in the area of Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Settlements in the Donetsk region, including Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Shakhtarsk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks in areas west of Staromaiorske and south of Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an airstrike in the area of Vodiane in the Donetsk region.
Over 20 settlements, including Poltavka, Huliaipole, Charyvne, Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the operational responsibility zone of Odesa operational-strategic group, on the Kherson front, the regional center of Kherson and the areas of settlements Zmiiivka, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Sadove, Antonivka, Chornobaivka in the Kherson region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The enemy persists in its intention to eliminate our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
During the past day, the adversary attempted 11 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our forces.
Enemy losses
Throughout the day, the defense forces' aviation conducted strikes on 5 areas of concentration of personnel, armaments, and military equipment of the Russian occupiers.
Missile troops units inflicted damage on 1 command post of the Russian occupiers.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 367,600 military personnel.
