Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 12

Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro, repelling Russian attacks near the village of Verbove (Zaporizhzhia region) and destroying one enemy ammunition depot, according to the data of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling continues
The Russian Federation persists in its aggressive war. Despite significant losses, it refuses to abandon plans for the complete occupation of Ukraine. The adversary continues to disregard the laws and customs of war, employing tactics of terror, striking military and civilian targets alike.
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging. Over the past day, there have been 73 combat engagements.
The enemy conducted 1 missile and 3 aerial strikes, carrying out 38 shelling attacks using rocket artillery systems on our troops' positions and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been civilian casualties. Private residential homes and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
The situation on the fronts
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains unchanged without significant alterations. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are carrying out tasks in border areas adjacent to Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of minefields along Ukraine's state border.
Approximately 15 populated areas, including Popivka in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna Buda, Veselivka in the Sumy region; Chervona Zoria, Kozacha Lopan, Lukyantsi, Zelene in the Kharkiv region, were subject to artillery and mortar shelling by Russian occupiers.
On the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 8 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region.
Around 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kupiansk, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, were under artillery and mortar fire from Russian invaders.
On the Lyman front, Defense Forces repelled 2 enemy attacks in the Makiiivka area of the Luhansk region.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebrianke forestry in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Bakhmut front, Defense Forces repelled 4 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
Around 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, New York in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, our defenders repelled 37 enemy attacks in areas east of Novokalynove, east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, south of Severne, south of Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through our troops' defense.
Over 10 populated areas, including Sukha Balka, Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
On the Maryinka front, Defense Forces continue to hold off the enemy in the areas of Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the adversary made 10 unsuccessful attacks on our defenders' positions.
Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, Paraskeviiivka in the Donetsk region were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Shakhtarsk front, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, defense forces repelled 4 enemy attacks in the areas north of Pryiutne and west of Verbovе in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over 20 populated areas, including Novodanylіvka, Orikhiv, Novoandrіiіvka, Mali Shcherbaky, Piatyhatky, Plavne in the Zaporizhzhia region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
On the Kherson front, enemy artillery shelled Ivanivka, Vysokе, Antonivka, Veletenske, and the regional center of the Kherson region, as well as Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They persist in delivering firepower against the enemy.
Enemy losses
Over the day, the defense aviation struck the area concentrated with personnel, armaments, and military equipment of the adversary.
Rocket forces units targeted the command post of the Russian occupiers, two areas concentrated with personnel, armaments, and military equipment, and one enemy ammunition depot.
The total number of casualties in the Russian army since the invasion began is 340,650 military personnel.
