Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 9

Ukrainian defenders repelled Russian attacks on five fronts, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy launched a missile and five air strikes, and carried out 25 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launchers on the positions of Ukrainian forces and populated areas. Russian occupiers once again attacked Ukraine, using a guided missile Kh-59, which was successfully destroyed by the air defense forces of Ukraine.
As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential houses and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
The situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging. Over the past day, there have been 45 combat clashes.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains without significant changes. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, fires at populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
About 25 populated areas, including Plokhyv, Klyusy, Baranivka, Rozhkovychi, Fotovyzh, Starykove, and Volfyne in the Sumy region, as well as Ternova, Starytsia, and Bochkove in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region and Novoselivka in the Luhansk region. About 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Ivanivka, Petropavlivka, and Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. About 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 12 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 populated areas, including Vasyukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, New York in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through our troops' defense. About 15 populated areas, including Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Siverne, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, came under enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with aviation support, carried out 8 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our defenders. The following populated areas in the Donetsk region, namely Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, Paraskoviivka, Kostiantynivka, and Katerynivka, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks attempting to displace our units from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlement of Staryi Maiorsk in the Donetsk region. The adversary conducted an aviation strike in the area of Pretchystivka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Pretchystivka, Zolota Nнva, and Urozhainne in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks in the areas of Novopokrovka and west of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Artillery and mortar shelling targeted more than 20 populated areas, including Levadne, Novodanilivka, Novopavlivka, Lobkove, Stepove in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted artillery shelling targeting Kherson, Berislav, Tyahynka, and Ivanivka in the Kherson region.
Ukrainian counteoffenisve
The Defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They persist in delivering fire strikes against the enemy.
Enemy losses
The missile forces units inflicted damage on two enemy fuel depots.
