Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 8

Ukrainian troops repelled 24 enemy attacks in the Bakhmut direction, inflicted losses on the occupiers in the Melitopol sector and destroyed an enemy electronic warfare station, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, 89 combat engagements took place.
In total, the enemy launched 3 missile and 57 air strikes, and fired 47 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and settlements.
Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties. Private houses and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Yesterday, the Russian occupants launched an air strike against Ukraine, using 21 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs. The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 17 enemy drones.
The following areas suffered from air strikes:
- Sinkivka, Petropavlivka, Kucherivka, Podoly, Kurylivka, Kyslivka, Pishchane in Kharkiv region;
- Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region;
- Vyimka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Toretsk, Pivdenne, Avdiivka, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region;
- Kopani, Zaporizhzhia region.
More than 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
The situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman sector, the Defense Forces repelled all enemy attacks near Terny, Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 24 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
Ukrainian defense forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidating their positions.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who is making attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the enemy.
Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled 30 enemy attacks in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, south of Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka sector, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where our defenders repelled 14 attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled eight enemy attacks in the areas west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive
In the Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold their positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, continue to conduct counter-battery combat, and inflict fire on the enemy's rear.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 5 strikes on the areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment.
Missile units destroyed 1 enemy electronic warfare station.
As a reminder, the total number of Russian army losses since the beginning of the invasion is 336,230.
