Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 5

Ukrainian soldiers are holding positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, repelling Russian attacks near the village of Verbove (Zaporizhzhia region) and destroying 11 enemy artillery units, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains complex, with 70 clashes reported over the past day.
The enemy carried out 4 missile and 53 aviation strikes, as well as 59 artillery shellings on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements.
There are casualties and injuries among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damage and destruction.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes detected in the formation of enemy offensive groups. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts reconnaissance and sabotage activities, fires on populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Kostobobrova in the Chernihiv region and Novodmytrivka in the Sumy region. Artillery and mortar shelling affected 15 settlements.
On the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 5 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region and Novoselivske in the Luhansk region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, the defense forces repelled 13 enemy attacks, supported by aviation, trying to push Ukrainian units out of occupied positions in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terniv, Spirne, Vesele, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 15 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, the defense forces repelled 9 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 23 enemy attacks east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, northeast of Berdychi, Avdiivka, Severne, Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through Ukrainian troops' defense. The enemy also carried out aviation strikes near Oleksandropil and Novobakhmutivka in the Donetsk region. Enemy artillery and mortar shelling affected over 15 settlements.
On the Maryinka front, the defense forces continue to control the enemy in the areas of Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, carried out 13 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders. Under artillery and mortar fire were Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, and Antonivka.
On the Shakhtarsk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack south of Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, the defense forces repelled all enemy attacks west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 20 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kherson front, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Tiahynka and Krynky in the Kherson region. The enemy's artillery shelling affected Kherson and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Ukrainian forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, inflicting fire damage on the enemy.
Enemy losses
Over the day, the aviation inflicted 15 strikes on areas of personnel concentration, armaments, and military equipment, 4 on command posts, and 3 on enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes. Also, the Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed the Russian Su-24M bomber.
Missile troops struck 6 areas of personnel concentration, armaments, and military equipment, 1 command post, 1 ammunition depot, 2 electronic warfare stations, and 11 enemy artillery units.
The total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 333,840 military personnel.
