Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 4

Russians tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian military forces with aviation support in the Avdiivka direction but unsuccessfully, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy launched five missile and 44 aviation strikes, conducted 37 artillery shellings from multiple rocket launchers on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements. Russian occupiers once again attacked Ukraine, using guided missiles Kh-59 and 10 UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. Six enemy drones and a guided missile Kh-59 were destroyed.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential houses and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
Frontline situation
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains complex, with 61 clashes within a day.
On the Volyn and Polissia directions, there are no significant changes in the operational situation. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, fires on settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine. Approximately 20 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 enemy attacks near Synkivka and Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Petropavlivka, Pishchane in the Kharkiv region, and Novoiehorivka in the Luhansk region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled 8 enemy attacks in the areas of Serebrianske forestry, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Terniv in the Donetsk region where the enemy attempted to push Ukrainian units from the occupied positions with the support of aviation. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Spirne, Vyimka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 9 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the area of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 15 enemy attacks east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, and Severne in the Donetsk region. The enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops with the support of aviation. The enemy also carried out aviation strikes near Oleksandropil in the Donetsk region. About 15 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy, which carried out 14 unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Paraskoviivka, Novomykhailivka came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Urozhaine, and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled all enemy attacks trying to regain lost positions in the area of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Novodarivka, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region. About 20 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kherson direction, Inzhenerne, Antonivka, Dniprovske, Novodmytrivka in the Kherson region, and the city of Kherson, as well as Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region, experienced artillery shelling by the enemy.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Defense Forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, inflicting fire damage on the enemy.
Russian losses
Over the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 10 strikes in the areas of personnel, weapons, and military equipment concentrations, two on the enemy's anti-aircraft missile complexes.
