Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 23

Ukrainian soldiers continue offensive operations in the Melitopol direction and conduct assault actions in the Bakhmut direction. They are specifically holding positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, according to the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
There were 52 armed clashes within the day. The adversary conducted 38 airstrikes and carried out 32 shelling attacks using multiple rocket launch systems on the positions of our forces and civilian settlements.
Frontline situation
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes. There are no signs of offensive groupings forming. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are carrying out tasks in the border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, fires on populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the Ukrainian state border. The enemy conducted airstrikes in the vicinity of Kostobobriv in the Chernihiv region and Oleksandriia in the Sumy region. Approximately 20 populated areas were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, the adversary, with aviation support, carried out assault operations in the areas of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region, where defense forces repelled two attacks. Aviation strikes occurred near Petropavlivka, Kupiansk, Kyrylivka, Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, and Stelmakhivka in Luhansk region. Dvorychne, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region were under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, there were no offensive actions by the enemy. They conducted airstrikes in the areas of Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region and Spirne in the Donetsk region. Approximately 15 populated areas, including Nevske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the adversary carried out unsuccessful assault actions near Klishiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where defense forces repelled 10 attacks. The enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Chasove Yar, Bohdanivka, Klishiivka, Toretsk in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Chasiv Yar, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishiivka, New York in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, with aviation support, the occupiers conducted unsuccessful assault actions east of Novokalynove, Avdiivka, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. Our forces repelled 18 attacks. The enemy carried out 6 airstrikes in the area of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 20 populated areas, including Berdychiv, Stepove, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy, with aviation support, carried out unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where defense forces repelled 11 attacks. Around 10 populated areas in the Donetsk region, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka, were under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive actions. They conducted airstrikes near Vodiane and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions. Over 15 populated areas, including Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Kamyanske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, artillery shelling by the enemy affected Kherson, Antonivka in the Kherson region, and Dmytrivka, Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.
The advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operations in the Melitopol direction, pushing forward in the Bakhmut direction, inflicting losses on occupying forces in manpower and equipment, and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, maintaining fire pressure on the adversary.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, our defense aviation conducted 11 strikes on areas where enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment were concentrated.
Units of the missile forces struck three areas concentrating enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, a command post, an air defense system, and four artillery pieces of the adversary.
