Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 22

The defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They are continuing to engage the enemy with fire, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the day, there were 58 military clashes. The enemy conducted 2 rocket and 29 aviation strikes, along with 40 shelling operations using reactive multiple-launch systems targeting our troops' positions and civilian areas.
Additionally, overnight on November 22, the occupiers launched another attack on Ukraine, using 14 UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. All enemy drones have been destroyed. Sadly, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties among civilians, and there have been damages to private residences and other civilian infrastructure.
Situation on the frontlines
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes. There are no signs of forming advancing enemy groups. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along Ukraine's state border. About 20 populated areas, including Klusy, Yanzhulivka, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Mykhailchyna Sloboda, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk, Malushyne, Volfyne, Korchakivka in the Sumy region; Kozacha Lopan, Hraniv, Staritsia, Pletenivka, Zemlianky in the Kharkiv region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy carried out assault actions in areas near Synkivka, northeast of Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where Defense Forces repelled 12 attacks. They launched aviation strikes in areas of Synkivka, Podoli, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyy, Stepova Novoselivka in the Kharkiv region. Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region were affected by artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive actions. They conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Serebrianske forestry, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Spirne in the Donetsk region. Around 15 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive actions. They conducted an aviation strike near Southern in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Markove, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, New York in Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions east of Novobakhmutivka, north of Lastochkine, Avdiivka, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. Defense Forces repelled 22 attacks. The enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Oleksandrivka and Avdiivka. Over 15 populated areas, including Sukha Balka, Ocheretine, Stepove, Avdiivka, Netailove, Nevelske in the Donetsk region, suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, with air support, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions in areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where Defense Forces repelled 14 attacks. Oleksandrivka, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repelled 3 enemy attacks west of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. Vuhledar in the Donetsk region suffered an aviation strike. About 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Bohoiavlenska, Prechystivka, Blahodatne, Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost positions near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region four times. Over 15 populated areas, including Poltavka, Huliaipole, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Shcherbaky, Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
In the Kherson direction, Kherson, Mykhailivka, Beryslav, Lvove, Antonivka in the Kherson region, and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
Ukrainian counterofffensive
At the same time, the Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, conducting assault actions in the Bakhmut direction, inflicting losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
