Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 17

Ukrainian troops managed to secure several strongholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. Meanwhile, Russian occupiers conducted unsuccessful assaults on six fronts, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's updates on Facebook.
Russian attacks
During the day, there were 53 military clashes. Overall, the enemy conducted one missile strike and 24 air attacks, along with 18 artillery bombardments on the positions of Ukrainian forces and civilian areas.
Additionally, Russia launched another aerial attack on Ukraine, employing combat UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. As a result of anti-aircraft defense operations, nine combat UAVs were destroyed.
The situation on the front line
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes in the operational situation and no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the armed forces of Belarus are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts reconnaissance activities, fires on settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
Approximately 30 populated areas, including Senkivka, Klyusy, Karpovychi, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Zarichchia, Brusky, Volfyne, Myropillia, Stepok, Popivka in the Sumy region; Veterynarne, Budarky in the Kharkiv region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully conducted assault actions in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. An aerial strike was carried out in the Kupiansk area of the Kharkiv region. Over 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. About 10 populated areas suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy conducted assault actions in the areas of Vasiukivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where nine attacks were repelled by defense forces. Over 10 populated areas, including Markove, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, New York in the Donetsk region, were under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Keramika, east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, and south of Tonenke in the Donetsk region, where 17 attacks were repelled by defense forces. More than 15 populated areas, including Oleksandrivka, Ocheretyne, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, Netailove in the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 18 attacks were repelled by defense forces. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements Pobieda and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
The following populated areas in the Donetsk region suffered from the enemy's artillery and mortar fire: Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Antonivka, Veselyi Hai.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful assault actions south of Vodiane in the Donetsk region. Additionally, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the settlements Vodyane and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. About 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, Novopil in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Robitne and west of Verbovе in the Zaporizhzhia region, where three attacks were repelled by our defenders. The enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of the settlement Novodanylіvka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
More than 15 populated areas, including Levadne, Poltavka, Zaliznychnе, Charyvne, Mala Tokmachka, and Piatyhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of the settlement Tiahynka in the Kherson region. The following populated areas, such as Tokarivka, Sadove, Chornobaivka, Bilozirka, Veletenske in the Kherson region, the city of Kherson, and Solonchaky in the Mykolaiv region, suffered from enemy artillery shelling.
