Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 9

Ukrainian fighters are advancing on the Melitopol and Bakhmut fronts. They repelled seven enemy attacks near Makiivka (Luhansk region) and destroyed a Russian electronic warfare system, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian shelling
Over the course of the day, there were 34 clashes. The enemy launched 1 missile and 39 aviation strikes and conducted 23 shellings on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential houses and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged and destroyed.
The situation on the fronts
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains complex.
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes in the formation of enemy assault groups.
Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, continues shelling settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Halahanivka in the Chernihiv region, Dihtiarne and Stepne in the Sumy region. Approximately 10 settlements were shelled by artillery and mortar fire.
On the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 5 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. The enemy launched aviation strikes near Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, and Pishchane in the Kharkiv region. Over 15 settlements were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Lyman front, the Defense Forces repelled 7 enemy attacks in the area of Makiivka in the Luhansk region. The enemy launched aviation strikes near Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Siverske and Spirne in the Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks near Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy launched aviation strikes in the areas of Klishchiivka and Andriivka. Over 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, the occupiers conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Keramik, Novokalynove, and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 10 settlements were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Maryinka front, during the day, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 15 enemy attacks in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy also launched aviation strikes in this area. Approximately 15 settlements were under enemy artillery fire.
On the Shakhtarsk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack in the area of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. Approximately 30 settlements were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack in the area of Levadne in the Zaporizhzhia region. The occupiers launched aviation strikes near Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Approximately 30 settlements were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Kherson front, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Zmiivka and Beryslav in the Kherson region. Enemy artillery and mortar fire affected 3 settlements.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation on the Melitopol front and conduct offensive (assault) actions on the Bakhmut front, inflicting losses on enemy personnel and equipment and wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces delivered 10 strikes on areas of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration.
Missile units struck the enemy command post, ammunition depot, 2 areas of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration, and the enemy electronic warfare system.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 282,630 military personnel.
