Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 4

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the direction of Melitopol and consolidate their positions on the achieved frontlines. During the past day, there were 22 military clashes, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Enemy attacks during the day
The enemy launched 5 missiles and 68 aviation strikes and carried out 42 shelling attacks from rocket artillery systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas.
"As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged," the statement said.
Ukrainians have been warned that the likelihood of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of the country remains high.
There were 22 military clashes during the day.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes in the operational situation.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 15 populated areas, including Karpovychi, Progress in the Chernihiv region, Nova Huta, Romashkove, Bukor, Malushyne in the Sumy region, and Udy, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Hatyshche, Ohirtseve, and Ternova in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of Budarky in the Kharkiv region. More than 10 populated areas, including Fiholivka, Dvorichna, Kyndrashivka, Synkivka, Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy's attempts to advance in the areas of Novoiehorivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region were unsuccessful. They launched aviation strikes in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Yampolivka, and Spirne in the Donetsk region. More than 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Spirne, Rozdolivka, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Bakhmut direction, our defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian forces north of Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of Ivanivka in the Donetsk region. More than 15 populated areas, including Minkivka, Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, and Pivnichne in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of Avdiivka. Populated areas including Oleksandrivka, Novokalynove, Keramik, Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region were shelled with artillery and mortars.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the advance of Russian troops in the area of Maryinka in the Donetsk region. The enemy launched an aviation strike in the area of Krasnohorivka. Populated areas including Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Hostre, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted an aviation strike in the area of Vuhledar. More than 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Vodiane, Shakhtarsk, Novoukrainka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Orikhove, Robotyne, and Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 populated areas, including Novodarivka, Olhivske, Zaliznychne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Tiahynka and Molodizhne. The town of Burhunka in the Kherson region was shelled by enemy artillery and mortars.
Enemy losses
During the day, the defense forces' aviation carried out 11 strikes on the areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, and 2 strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes.
The missile troops and artillery units during the day hit 11 artillery systems at firing positions and 4 enemy command posts.
