Russia was forced to resort to a series of decoy and deception methods, attempting to conceal its aircraft after successful Ukrainian strikes on Russian military targets, reports the UK Ministry of Defense.

As stated in the summary, false Russian fighter jets are painted on the concrete at the Kirovske airfield in occupied Crimea. Similar scenes have been observed at least on 12 other Russian airbases, demonstrating Russia's concern about future Ukrainian strikes and its ability to counter them.

However, according to British intelligence, Russian helicopters continue to regularly land on the painted false fighter jet silhouettes, completely thwarting the attempt at deception.

"This also reveals the true order of battle or aircraft strength at these airbases, which Russia is likely trying to mask from Ukraine's intelligence picture," the UK Ministry of Defense notes.

Military camouflage and fleet concealment

Previously, British intelligence reported that Russian military doctrine paid significant attention to using camouflage and deception methods to enhance the survivability of its forces and conceal their operational intentions.

However, despite these attempts at concealment, Russian aircraft remain vulnerable in the air, and Russian ships remain vulnerable during operations in the Black Sea. The use of camouflage methods is unlikely to lead to a significant reduction in losses, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.

British intelligence also reported that Russia's military was seeking ways to preserve its fleet in the Black Sea. Ship operations are restricted, and protection against drones has been intensified.
