Russia targets Ukraine with missiles and dozens of UAVs overnight: Air Force reports
Russian invaders launched air strikes on Ukrainian territory using ballistic weapons and kamikaze drones last night. The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces destroyed around thirty Shahed drones, reports the Commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
It is noted that during the air attack on the night of August 13, the occupiers launched:
- 2 ballistic missiles Iskander-M/KN-23 (from the Voronezh region, Russia),
- and 38 kamikaze drones (from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk regions, Russia).
Repelling the air attack
Oleshchuk explained that the repulsion of the enemy's air attack involved:
- mobile fire groups,
- aviation,
- anti-aircraft missile units,
- electronic warfare means.
In total, 30 Shahed drones were shot down in Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Kherson, Chernihiv, Dnipro, and Cherkasy regions.
Combined air attack
On the evening of August 12, the Ukrainian Air Force Command announced that Russian invaders had launched Shahed-type kamikaze drones on Ukrainian territory.
As a result, an air alert was declared in several regions of Ukraine, which later also extended to the city of Kyiv. There were reports of the threat of ballistic weapons being used by the occupiers for strikes.
Additionally, in the Chernihiv region, civilian infrastructure in Bakhmach was hit by Shahed drones.
Furthermore, Kyiv declared a second air alert, which lasted approximately 20 minutes at that time.
There were also reports of explosions heard in Sumy during the night and early morning.
