Russia targets key high ground in Zaporizhzhia: Why Kamianske matters

The Russian army is trying to capture the settlement of Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is an important bridgehead located on dominant high ground, according to Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Defense Forces of southern Ukraine.
"For several days in a row, the enemy has been trying precisely in this direction to capture this settlement (Kamianske – ed.), break through our defense and reach the right bank of the Yanchekrak River," he said.
According to the spokesperson, the enemy's attempts remain unsuccessful, the Russians are unable to drive the Defense Forces out of the left bank of the mentioned river, no positions have been lost.
"I want to assure you that the Defense Forces of Ukraine have not suffered any loss of positions in this settlement. That is, we are holding this settlement and successfully repelling enemy attacks," Voloshyn added.
As the spokesperson explained, Kamianske is located on the Simferopol-Kharkiv highway and is situated on dominant high ground. Therefore, the enemy is trying to capture this bridgehead.
"Capturing this settlement would allow the enemy to deliver fire damage with long-range artillery systems on Stepnohirsk and would allow them to reach the southern outskirts of Zaporizhzhia," he noted.
