On Tuesday morning, January 27, Russia struck a critical infrastructure facility of Naftogaz (Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas company) in the Lviv region, triggering a fire, according to a statement from Naftogaz.

"For security reasons, in order to protect people and prevent environmental contamination, the company’s specialists immediately shut down technological processes at the facility. DSNS (State Emergency Service of Ukraine) rescuers are working at the site," said Naftogaz CEO Serhii Koretskyi.

He noted that this was already the fifteenth enemy strike on the Naftogaz's critical infrastructure facilities since the beginning of January.

Attack on the Lviv region on January 27

This morning, Russian forces struck an infrastructure facility in Brody, Lviv region, using drones. As a result of the attack, petroleum products caught fire, spreading thick smoke over the city and causing a strong odor.

Local authorities urged residents to keep windows and doors closed and to limit movement outdoors.

Following the attack, a meeting of the Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations Commission (TES and ES) was held in the city. As a result, it was decided to suspend in-person classes in schools on January 27–28 and switch educational institutions to distance learning. Duty groups in kindergartens are also planned to be set up.

In addition, in the village of Smilne, which is part of the Brody community, specialists from the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention recorded a temporary increase in carbon monoxide levels in the air.

It is noted that air quality deteriorated due to the enemy drone attack. The situation is currently under control, and radiation levels remain normal.

Citizens with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions are advised to stay at home or go outside wearing a mask. Local residents are also advised to temporarily refrain from ventilating their premises.
