Russia summons ambassador after Italian media report from Kursk region
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Italian Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni after Italian state television RAI correspondents reported from the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Kursk region, according to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The ambassador was given a strong protest regarding the actions of the Italian state broadcaster RAI’s crew, which illegally entered the territory of the Russian Federation," the statement from the aggressor country’s ministry said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that this "violates Russian legislation and journalistic ethics."
In this context, the ministry stated that the actions of the correspondents "fall under the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation."
"Russian authorities are taking the necessary steps to establish the circumstances of the crime committed by RAI employees for legal assessment and to take appropriate measures," the ministry threatened.
Fighting in the Kursk region
It should be noted that Ukrainian defenders have been conducting an operation in the Kursk region for nearly two weeks. They have managed to take control of a large number of settlements — according to the latest information revealed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, there were 82.
This operation caught the Russians by surprise — they failed to defend the border and could not stop the advance of Ukrainian forces.
Since the start of the operation in the Kursk region, a large number of Russian occupiers have been taken prisoner.
In particular, the SSU conducted an operation in which over 100 Russian soldiers were captured. Among them were fighters from the Akhmat unit. More details were provided by sources to RBC-Ukraine.
