On the night of May 1, Russians attacked Odesa with 21 drones. The rubble is still being cleared from the building where the drone hit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says.

"In Odesa, debris is still being cleared at the residential building hit by a Russian drone. Numerous fires broke out in the city overnight. In total, Odesa was attacked by 21 drones. Tragically, there have been fatalities. My condolences to the families and loved ones. All those affected are receiving the necessary assistance," Zelenskyy wrote.

He also emphasized that last night, Odesa, Kyiv, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, and Cherkasy regions were under Russian attack. In the Kharkiv region, rescuers are fighting a fire. The President added that during that night alone, Russians struck 170 drones at Ukraine, including over 100 Shahed drones.

Zelenskyy believes that a tangible impetus for diplomacy is needed, as well as further pressure on Russia to force it to silence and negotiate.

"The more effective the sanctions, the more incentives Russia will have to end the war. The stronger Ukraine’s defense and our Air Defense Forces are, the more lives we will be able to save — and the sooner we will be able to guarantee lasting security. I thank everyone around the world who is helping," Zelenskyy emphasized.
