On the night of December 5, Russian forces attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region with ballistic missiles and launched over 40 drones at Ukraine. The air defense system intercepted most of the UAVs, informs the Ukrainian Air Force.

On the night of December 5, the enemy struck Dnipropetrovsk with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the Rostov region.

"Russia also attacked Ukraine with 44 Shahed strike drones and other types of UAVs from launch areas in Oryol and Kursk regions," the report states.

Air defense

As of 08:30 Kyiv time, air defense units, electronic warfare, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 30 enemy UAVs in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions.

"12 drones were lost, and one went out of the controlled airspace in the direction of Belarus," the Air Force added.

Air defense during Russian attacks

Russian troops are constantly shelling Ukraine, often using both drones and missiles. Ukraine's air defense has successfully learned to handle Russian UAVs, but the situation with ballistic missiles is more challenging.

Meanwhile, Russian invaders employ various tricks to exhaust Ukrainian air defense. For instance, they launch decoy drones or make maximum efforts to carry out round-the-clock drone attacks on Ukraine.

Recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine urgently needs at least 20 air defense systems, such as Hawks, NASAMS, or IRIS-T. According to the minister, this would help prevent blackouts due to Russian strikes.
