Russian troops attacked Ukraine with various types of strike drones tonight, January 16. Most of the Russian targets were eliminated by the air defense forces of the Ukrainian Air Force.

"On the night of January 16, Russia attacked with 76 Shahed-type drones, including jet-powered ones, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types of drones," the Ukrainian Air Force says.

Russia attacked Ukraine from several directions: Kursk, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk of Russia, and temporarily occupied Donetsk.

Russian air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare, and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m. Kyiv time, 53 Russian drones were shot down or suppressed by Ukrainian air defense forces. At the same time, 19 Russian drones were recorded hitting 9 locations, as well as downed drones falling at one location.

"Russian attack continues, with several Russian drones in the airspace. Follow the safety rules," the Ukrainian Air Force adds.

Russian strikes on Ukraine

Russian troops attack Ukraine daily with various types of drones and missiles, trying to destroy critical infrastructure in different regions.

Due to Russian strikes, hourly power outages are in effect for residents throughout Ukraine and are more severe than before.

In addition, on January 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that due to the severe consequences of Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the harsh weather conditions this winter, a decision will be made in the near future to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector.
