Russia launched a nighttime attack on Ukraine with missiles and dozens of attack drones. Air defense forces shot down nearly all the targets, but debris and strikes were reported in several regions, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

On the night of July 13, starting at 6 p.m. on July 12, Russia struck Ukraine with:

  • 3 Kh-59/69 guided air-to-ground missiles launched from occupied Crimea;
  • 134 Shahed-type strike drones, including jet-powered ones, as well as Herbera and Italmas drones and Parodiya decoy drones.

The drones flew from the directions of Kursk, Oryol, and Millerovo in Russia, as well as from the occupied Donetsk region and Crimea (Hvardiiske, Chauda).

Russia attack was repelled by the Air Force, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

How many targets were shot down

According to preliminary data as of 9:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defense neutralized:

  • 3 Kh-59/69 missiles
  • 123 Russian drones in the north, south, and east of Ukraine.

Despite the air defense efforts, some hits were unavoidable. The following were recorded:

  • 6 strike drones hitting five locations
  • Debris from downed targets falling in 4 additional locations.

This morning, Russia launched a second airstrike on the Odesa region. The consequences of the Russian attack are still being assessed.

Ukrainian Air Force warns that the Russian attack is still ongoing. Russian drones remain in the sky, so safety precautions should be followed.

That same night, one of the Russian targets flew beyond Ukraine’s borders. A Geran-2 kamikaze drone crashed and exploded near the Moldovan village of Kopanka. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.

Moldova’s Ministry of Defense stated that the drone ended up in its airspace specifically because of the Russian attack on the Odesa region.

This morning, Russia also attacked the premises of a bus company in Odesa. Buses caught fire there, and four private homes were damaged.

Three men, aged 58, 62, and 66, were injured and hospitalized in moderate condition.
