Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine overnight using more than a hundred strike drones. Most of the Russian targets were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces, but some drones did reach their targets, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

"On the night of April 7, Russia launched an attack with 110 strike drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types from the following directions: Bryansk, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, Hvardiiske, Chauda in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the Donetsk region; about 70 of them were Shaheds," the Ukrainian Air Force reports.

Russian air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 8 a.m. Kyiv time, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down or neutralized 77 Russian Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types of drones in the north, south, and east of Ukraine.

At the same time, 31 strike drones were recorded hitting 14 locations, and downed Russian targets were found at 9 locations.

"Russian attack is ongoing. Russian drones are in Ukrainian airspace. Follow safety guidelines," the Ukrainian Air Force adds.

Strengthening Ukraine’s air defense

Ukraine will receive high-tech Tridon Mk2 air defense systems from Sweden. They will help in the fight against Shaheds and other aerial threats.

Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the deployment of RapidRanger short-range air defense systems in Ukraine.

Ukraine is preparing requests to the US and Middle East countries for the transfer of THAAD air defense systems, which could become an effective method of combating guided aerial bombs.
